5.0 out of 5 stars THE CNN REPORT
This was Capone N Noreaga's debut. This came out before Capone was jailed. It is awesome. Both rappers have distinct styles. They are supported by great beat bangs and have written deep lyrics. A+

Noreaga's solo debut NORE was good too, but not as good as The War Report. It also has great lyrics and beats but something is missing without Capone. A

This album is pretty good. The beats kick and the answer to NY is a true statement that NY run hip-hop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Channel 10 Blood Sport, July 24, 2005
This review is from: War Report (Audio CD)
Back in 1997 when shiny suit rap was taking over the hiphop music scene, a grimey duo from Queens NY, Capone-N-Noreaga dropped the street classic The War Report. The album is right behind other street classics such as Mobb Deep's Infamous, Raekwon's ..Cuban Link, and Nas' Illmatic. It boasts the buzz-gaining "L.A. L.A." w/ Mobb Deep and Tragedy, an answer record to the Dogg Pound's "NY NY". The production is straight raw beats provided by EZ Elpee, Buckwild, Lord Finesse, Clark Kent, Havoc from Mobb Deep, Marley Marl and Bay Boy Hitmen producers Nashiem Myrick & Carlos Broady, who produce The War Report favorites "T.O.N.Y." and "Driver's Seat". Also peep other War Report hits "Blood Money", "Stick You" & "Illegal Life". Noreaga isn't the best lyricist, having some decent verses and then having some bad ones through out the album. Since Capone is only on like half the songs since he got locked up while recording the album, Tragedy Khadafi take his place on some songs, providing relief to Noreaga's sometimes akward rhyming. A solid album none the less and I recommend it to anyone a fan of street rap like Nas, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang.

Noreaga's solo debut NORE was good too, but not as good as The War Report. It also has great lyrics and beats but something is missing without Capone. A

His second album, Melvin Flint Da Hustler, was weak. It had weak beats and lyrics, in addition to the lack of Capone. F

CNN are back now with The Reunion. It still isn't as good as The War Report, but the beats and lyrics are back and Capone fills the void again. A

I reccomend all the CNN and Noreaga album except Melvin Flint, especcially this stellar debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars T.O.N.Y., September 24, 2000

Originally hailing from the East, and knowing real Hip-Hop when I hear it, CNN's the War Report is real Hip-Hop. This album was underestimated and definitely slept on by many. This album, which predates NORE's two mediocre (and commercial) follow-up solo projects, is without a doubt a classic. The lyrical content is fierce and the beats are hard-hitting, in other words, this album was produced very well and is evenly balanced. Creativity and well-executed cameos from Mobb Deep, Busta, and other NY cats made the War Report charismatic. Hopefully, the production on their upcoming sophomore effort "The Reunion" will not miss the mark, inspite of NORE's split from Tragedy a/k/a Khadafi of 25 to Life (whose label is now affiliated with Gee Street), who helped produce much of their first album. This underground masterpiece upholds the tradition of QB rap set forth by Nas the "Illmatic" (not to be confused with "Nastradamus") and the Infamous Mobb Deep. Noreaga needs Capone, like fish need gills to breathe under water. If their next album equals or surpasses the War Report, the Hip-Hop community will then realize why these cats are Top of New York! Just keep your fingers crossed that Capone doesn't get locked up again, so we won't have to be subjected to anymore NORE solo projects. This album is for people who appreciate true East Coast Hip-Hop music, and is not for the faint of lyric and void of comprehension. This album is for those who want to boycott some of the current weak music that's passing for East Coast Hip-Hop. What-What!

5.0 out of 5 stars CNN Before the Neptunes, May 8, 2005
This review is from: War Report (Audio CD)
This CD was a CD back when I was in school that was coveted then and it should be mentioned with the best CDs ever. War Report was the type of cd (or tape back then) you didn't want to lend out because you might not get that one back. I like to get right to the thick of things and listen to my songs but this cd you got to wait. Because I know after the intro that Bloody Money is coming on. One of my favorite songs ever. These lyrics through out the entire cd are everyday words from the streets put to music. The difference is CNN actually has been through it. No studio gangsters on this cd. I listen to this cd and think back. I think to a time when music belonged to the east coast and its a time where the overflow of garbage (like today) would have smashed before it darkened the doorway at hip hops house. But even then this cd didn't get alot of press for whatever reason. CNN The Reunion was cool but it wasn't no War Report. I could go on and on about this cd but this is a platinum front to back classic and if you don't have this dont tell anybody buy it then talk about somebody that doesn't have it. Because if they find out you don't have it they are gonna talk about you.

Ok, so much has rightly been said about this album. CLASSIC is undisputable. The only dispute can be over which was the best QB album Illmatic or The War Report. Persoanlly I would go with this but that is only because despite living a million miles away from the grime this CD depicts... I just love the music!!! The beats are the best I've ever heard across an album of 20 tracks. I mean... Blood Money Pt. 1 is still getting heavy rotation 8 years on. The guys here who gave it 1 star I'm afraid are MTV pop rap fans and to be honest don't understand the enormity of what they've whacked into their CD player.
Verdict:- 10*/10 [Classic]

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much a classic..., November 26, 2003

This album would definitly be on my top 10 hip hop albums list. Wonderful production carries this album, as both Nore and Capone are talented yet strange lyricists. Some of their rhymes make you think, and others leave you questioning. However, from a lyrical standpoint, this album is above average, as the guest appearances by Tragedy, Havoc and the 25 II Life crew or whatever they're called really come complete with some nice lyrics. But as I said, production is great - EZ Elpee is amazing on "Halfway Thugs", and the production on Iraq: See The World, Bloody Money, T.O.N.Y., and Never Die Alone is absolute gold. The only problems with the album are the skits, and half-assed tracks like Live On, Live Long and Capone Bone. But don't let that keep you from getting this album. I'm gonna stick with what other reviewers are saying - if you like Mobb Deep's "The Infamous" or "Hell On Earth", then you'll like this one as well. Matter of fact, if I could give this album 4.5 stars I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars true classic hip hop, May 11, 2003

the war report is one of the best albums from a duo. the beats are all off the hook and capone & noreaga bring raw lyrics to match the raw beats. this is grimy hip hop at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a classic the cat who said it was an avg rap album, September 8, 2000

Well he needs to give this a few more listens and he must not appreciate real thugged out dark production, However I recommend this to any fan of Ny Rap especially if you like Mobb deep and Nas the beats are rugged on too many songs for me to count them out but favorites are Iraq see the world, Neva Die Alone, Stick you, La La WHich answers Ny Ny, Bloody Money The illest cut i think and Halfway Thugs which is also ill, If you ask me the Production is great by Capone Havoc and Tragedy they produced a classic in my mind and Capone is a good lyricist while Noreaga holds it down with his voice and personna (Which is not found on his Solo efforts) I look forward to the Reunion album Coming Soon which probably wont be as good since Noreaga is horrible Now in my opinion still stressing the What What and His voice now as well isnt as tight but I recommend you pick this "Classic" up before you touch Noreagas solo joints and Pick up the Reunion When it drops as well, Capones Return should be interesting Since too me he carries the duo.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best ever, May 22, 1999
This review is from: War Report (Audio CD)
CNN's War Report is one of the best rap/hip-hop albums ever. This album features good songs, good lyrics, good MCing, good beats, and good production. Capone and Noreaga both hold it down either together or on solo joints. The guest MCs do a very good job too, including fellow QB rappers Mobb Deep. I only had two problems: first, Capone was doing a bid at the time of much of the production and is missing from about half the tracks, and, two I really didn't like the song Live On Live Long. But, those are minor problems. I thought every other song was either good or just plain slammin and I know people who like Live On Live Long. The bottom line is that if you like hardcore east coast/New York rap, you'll love this. I can't wait until CNN drops again, I'll be first in line for the sophomore album!
