Book Description

June 1973
The classic book on spiritual warfare - the unabridged original with appendices, not one word changed, not one word cut. 325 pages, hardcover with jacket.

A brilliant, highly accurate description of specific ways by which the powers of darkness work to confuse, deceive, oppose, afflict, mislead or bind believers - and how to detect, oppose and overcome them. An advanced text, not for quick or easy reading. Requires study - yields keen, sure understanding. Thomas E. Lowe, Ltd. restored this full original text to the public in 1973 after many years in which the editors of the condensed edition had opposed its publication.

Today, Mrs. Penn-Lewis's books are still widely read by Christians and deservedly so, but there is a significant exception: her most important book, War on the Saints, written in collaboration with the famous Welsh revivalist, Evan Roberts, had been only available in an abridged version. There are many books which can be abridged without losing content, but in the case of War on the Saints the word "abridged" is certainly the wrong one simply because the main thrust of her vital book was eliminated in the abridged and emasculated version. The editors based their decision to discontinue the original version "first and foremost" on their rejection of the important teaching regarding demon influence on Christians.

A Note on the Ninth Edition

The publishing house responsible for the Ninth Edition of "War on the Saints" is named in memory of a man of God, an evangelist and planter of churches in Maryland, Thomas Ernest Lowe. This able and zealous minister, seeing the great abundance of Gospel opportunity for North Americans and realizing the scarcity of that same opportunity for millions in South America, set out in the 1930's for Colombia, to survey the spiritual landscape, and was joined there by his wife, Hannah. They worked together until Mr. Lowe, still a relatively young and most vigorous man, died in the capital city of Bogotá in 1941.

It is chiefly to his widow, Hannah Lowe, that readers of this unabridged volume owe their possession of it. Knowing the great value to believers of this exceptional work, she carefully searched for a copy of the whole text over an extended period in the 1960's and, at length, found two copies, one in nearly perfect condition. The republication of the whole volume in its present form, after having been out of print for years, was strenuously opposed, but in 1973, with the help of likeminded believers, Mrs. Lowe had the joy of seeing the book once again made available exactly as its authors intended. It has been available continuously since that time.

Note: Mrs. Lowe, vibrant in service to her Lord until her final days, died at Jerusalem in June 1983, having spent a year in the beloved City.

From the Inside Flap

WAR ON THE SAINTS

This indispensable work fills a notable gap in Christian literature.

There are excellent Christian books on just about every subject concerning the believer and the church: books on prayer, missions, church work, evangelism, prophecy, and many more. But if anyone needed a book on how to recognize, identify and effectively oppose the work of demons, he would discover a lack of titles on the subject.

The earnest Christian of today, aware of a constant increase of demon activity in every aspect of life, wonders about this serious omission. In the time in which we live, no Christian can afford to close his eyes and pretend there is no reason for concern or that the church and he as a believer need not be involved in the conflict.

War on the Saints is a classic treatise on the work of demons. It explains carefully how the enemy works and how to defeat him. It is relatively easy for Christians to deal with sin, but when they face satan and his countless wiles, they will be at a loss to know what to do, at least in many cases. St. Paul serenely affirmed in his day, "We are not ignorant of the devil's devices," and the life and ministry of the early church proved it. This lucid book scatters ignorance of satan's devices!

The Church of Jesus Christ today is in dire need of men and women who will use the gifts of the Spirit and exercise spiritual authority over demons. Two experienced Christians, both with keen discernment of spirits, wrote the most helpful book on the subject, War on the Saints. Jessie Penn-Lewis had a wide public ministry with an emphasis on overcoming. Evan Roberts, the chief evangelist of the Welsh revival, joined Mrs. Penn-Lewis in writing this penetrating study.

5.0 out of 5 stars astounding, timely and necessary, October 19, 1999

This review is from: War on the Saints, The Full Text, Unabridged Edition (Hardcover)
Dear Potential Purchasers of WAR ON THE SAINTS: PLEASE BUY THIS BOOK NOW, buy several of them and give some away; for by doing so you keep the truth alive among us.There is simply no other book extant in this world which is remotely near to equal to WAR ON THE SAINTS on the subject matter of the relationship between the Word of God and the Spirit of God. This is THE address to the false revival going on in places like Pensacola and London, and the fact that it was written so long ago makes this book prophetic. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE UNABRIDGED VERSION BY THOMAS E. LOWE COMPANY - forget the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in its class!, October 10, 2001
This review is from: War on the Saints, The Full Text, Unabridged Edition (Hardcover)
War on the Saints (unabridged edition) is the absolute classic work on spiritual warfare and demonic oppression of Christians and non-Christians by the devil and his demonic forces bar none. It is the foundation of similar works by authors Mark Bubeck, Neil Anderson, and Kurt Koch on the same subect. If you will read and memorize the definitions in the beginning of the book, the book makes total sense. If you do not, you will be aruguing with the author's statements. I have ministered to countless "everyday" people that struggle with the exact same battles and issues documented in this book. It is an eye-opener for every believing child of God and a must read for all those who seek to biblically counsel and minister to others both Christian and non-Christian. An awesome work! Buy it and give it to your Pastor!

5.0 out of 5 stars " . . .when I became a man, I put away childish things.", October 19, 1998
This review is from: War on the Saints, The Full Text, Unabridged Edition (Hardcover)
This book is not for the "weak" Christian! It is replete with spiritual truth that will overwhelm those who are not well grounded in the Word of God. The faint-hearted need not read it, for with it will most assuredly come trials from the enemy of your soul who does not want you to appropriate these truths. I've read and studied both the abridged and the unabridged versions, and would recommend either - the abridged for younger (in the Lord) Christians, and the unabridged for those ready and able to handle the "meatier" spiritual matters. Arm yourselves, men and women of God, with the truth of this book and go out to do battle in His Name and by the power of His blood!
