Great Music Still Exists!,

This review is from: War Stories (Audio CD)
These days it's so hard to find great music, much less mediocre. Music is such a huge part of my life, so for me the current state of ' music ' is very sad indeed. Now I've always been a big War fan so when I happened across this disc, I must admit I was a bit hesitant. The sole reason, admitedly, was I figured there'd be an effort to somehow fuse hip-hop/rap into this project. But hey, it was after all Lonnie Jordan, right? So I picked it up and played it. And I played it again. And again. It's now on it's 10th rotation and this is without a doubt the BEST music I've heard in years! Kudos to Lonnie! EVERYTHING on this disc is fantastic! The new twists on the old ' joints ' are excellent. The interludes are superb and the takes on ' Get Down ' and Jimi's ' Third Stone ' are simply awesome!I've got to spread the word on this one. If you're a War fan or just enjoy really great music ( REAL LIVE instruments and vocals ) you've got to get this one! ASAP !

growing up in la and having seen the original band a few times and the remix/remodel current lonnie johnson led version once-i was weary of buying this cd.because the live cd war released last year was horrible.but this was a pleasant surprize.sure none of the remakes are as good as the original versions.case in point is world is a ghetto in which lonnie just cant live up to b.b dickersons original vocal.but overall he does a pretty good job-being a little bit more jazzy on some songs.cool covers of songs not known to be war songs too like the hendrix cover.so lonnie if you can make a really good solo cd why did the live cd suck so much.maybe you and the lowrider band should get back together and settle whatever differences youll have and get back to making great music together-again.it would be ok to invite eric burdon too.ohh the things dreams are made of.think about it.

When the original wonders of music come back into the market, folk like me are just HAPPY! I was looking for his 1st solo project to replace my wax. And here he is. Fine by me!Philip L Broyles Clinton, MD |
