Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8-- Allen discusses the aftermath of World War I; the Treaty of Versailles; the hopes for and the failure of the League of Nations; the United States's isolationism; and the social and economic problems of Europe, Russia, the Far East, and the Pacific. The War in Vietnam includes a chapter on the history of Vietnam from 1887 until the French left in 1954, a discussion of the U. S.'s entry and eventual exit, and the present situation in Vietnam. No particular sides are taken. Both volumes include biographical sketches of the leading figures. Black-and-white photographs are used liberally throughout, with a few color photos appearing in Vietnam. There is also color in some maps and reproductions of war posters. The texts are clear and concise, giving pertinent information and no unnecessary detail. Both are good introductions. --Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS
