BRUCE JONES is the author/artist of nine previous novels including (under the pseudonym Bruce Elliot) the bestselling STILL LIFE, plus numerous screenplays, teleplays and graphic novels. Jones won the Upcoming Author of the Year award from the Bertelsman Book Club. He lives with his wife, novelist and screenwriter April Campbell Jones, and their dogs Pete and Lily. The Joneses spend their time in the ethers between Los Angeles and the Midwest.

Great start to a great adventure.,

"The War that Time Forgot." It kicks off introducing our hero in his own time. Over the next six chapters he undergoes a series of adventures, each more fantastic and entertaining. In this volume we have tanks, robots, dinosaurs, gladiators, vikings, WWII ace pilots (both japanes and american) and of course aliens.
The story moves briskly and allows a sense of mystery of why our young hero is there,(and is he a hero after all?). Very good art is present throughout the entire volume. Recommended to any one who is able to suspend their sharply honed power of disbelief and just enjoy themselves for an hour.

Engaging story, but lacking in depth,

I enjoyed this book, but felt it could have been better. It started pretty weak, and felt wrong that the characters seemed to too easily accept the fantastical situation they found themselves in (being stuck on an island with dinosaurs and warriors from different places and times in history). Of course, being set in the DC Universe, many of the characters already have rich histories in wich their characters have been established, but if you are not familiar with some (for example I've rarely read Tomahawk stories in the past) then you may find yourself a bit lost. Enemy Ace, who I have read, appears too cheerful for my tastes compared to the way he was depicted in the past (also his presence is pretty superflaous so far). Of course, having such a large casto of characters makes it difficult for each to be given enough time, but still the review loses one star because of the lack of solid characterisation.
Having said that the art is very good and the character interactions are very entertaining (although not very deeply developed, the characters do contrast and/or compliment each other pretty well). There are some good surprises and even a few laughts along the way, and Bruce Jones is very good at pacing the story and ending each chapters with very gripping cliffhangers. The concept of the story is certainly very interesting, and it is very cool to see dinosaurs, Roman soldiers, World War I pilots, robots and so on all together in one story. It is good enough that I will be reading volume II, which is already out.
