5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, extensively detailed, visually impressive.
This illustrated survey of military aircraft from 1915-2000 provides one black and white photos and accompanying information per page, providing capsule overviews and histories which will interest any with a prior affection for military aircraft. It may lack the color of slimmer competing volumes, but makes up for it in extensive details and numerous war plane listings.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expensive, not impressive
Fortunately I got hold a copy of this expensive book from my local library before I made a decision to order it. I am very disappointed. I thought all recently published books are in color. This book provides only one black and white picture for each aircraft. The description is not extensive either. You can buy better books for much less money from the bargain book...

Fredriksen lists 327 American warbirds, with a photo, specifications, and brief essay on each. They run from the obscure to the famous, with the only criterion that each plane must actually have been deployed in U.S. military service. This is a large-format hardcover and a very good reference for anyone looking for an introduction to the subject and pointers on where else to look.

You can buy better books for much less money from the bargain book section in your local bookstore. Published in 1999, this book is already outdated.
