4.0 out of 5 stars Good Oline Game
Warbirds is an online game. Of course you can download it but the CD "may" save you download-time and money.

The offline mode (where the planes come back after you shoot them down) is purely to train your skills - skills you will need to survive online against real human beings.

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating Game
This game is frustrating, it seems to be a very elaborate game. But compared to the other games like Fighter Ace, the plane model is way too difficult. I fly real planes and I have trouble taking off from this game without damaging the planes. Also from the time I was flying there does not seem to be a lot of people flying.

Also, there is only cockpit view, which is...

The offline mode (where the planes come back after you shoot them down) is purely to train your skills - skills you will need to survive online against real human beings.

The graphics obviously can't be as fancy as, lets say Falcon 4.0, since the game supports up to 400 players online and has to be a balance between "effective" and "eye candy" to minimise lag.

Warbirds has a good Flightmodel, a huge variety of planes, a big online comminity and interesting events (Battle of Britain, the Bomber war over Europe etc). The only downside is it's rather expensive online fee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best WWII flight sim available, March 27, 2004

Pay no attention to the two bad reviews of this game above. The people who wrote them obviously didn't have the hardware to properly run this game and didn't read the instructions carefully. This game has the most realistic flight characteristics of any combat flight sim out there. I've watched this game from it's infancy and have played every version. The detail in this game with regard to the variety of planes and environments is unparalelled in flight sims. If the gentleman who flies real planes from Japan that wrote the negative review above can't land a plane in this game, I would never get in a real plane with him. It takes some practice to do but I've even made carrier landings in the ocean with a Black Sheep Squadron Corsair. This is a fantastic game if you enjoy WWII flight sims!!!

I fly real planes and I have trouble taking off from this game without damaging the planes. Also from the time I was flying there does not seem to be a lot of people flying.

Also, there is only cockpit view, which is realistic. But Fighter Ace at least give you the options of flying in Arcade mode just to have fun or realistic mode to emulate real life.

Being a Fighter Ace user wanting to check the other game out, I am disappointed and don't understand what the concept is. It is too bad since they seem to have put a lot of effort in the game and in marketing.

This game is really bad. The graphics Are terrible. If you shoot a plane down it just comes back.If there was a rating of -5 stars this game deserves it.
