3.0 out of 5 stars Loved everything about this series except....., January 2, 2003

This review is from: Warblade (Konrad) (Mass Market Paperback)
The "Konrad" series is one of my favorites from the Warhammer world. You really have sympathy for Konrad, his plight and sufferings. You also get a great sense of redemption as he performs some truly heroic deeds. Ferring also has terrific prose style and uses great descriptions, dialogue and settings. They're also great for fans of the macabre too since most of Konrad's adventures have him in some truly terrifying places. Spoilers below, don't read if you haven't read the book......

I gave Warblade only 3 stars because of the terrible lack of effort with the ending of the series. It felt like David Ferring was under editorial pressure and had to deliver the goods quick. For a trilogy with so much build-up, the ending was a drop-dead anti-climax and left the reader feeling like they had been punched in the gut. It's really too bad. Still though, I'd like to see another Konrad book written.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak Ending to Trilogy, January 30, 2008
This review is from: Warblade (Konrad) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read all three books for this ending. All the build up, all the vague hints & clues and... nothing is actually resolved. Is Ferring incapable of actually writing a conclusion to any of these novels.

This is the third book and supposedly the conclusion to the Konrad Saga. Warblade picks up where Shadowbreed leaves off (It actually repeats the last scene of Shadowbreed).

This series was originally written in the 80s and the Warhammer world has changed since then - enough that the world presented in the book doesn't really mesh well with the current Warhammer setting.

This novel has all the flaws of the previous two books, only they are much worse. Scripted events happen and Konrad is swept along. Events are introduced, but never explained or in some cases even resolved. The poor reader is given the vain hope all will be revealed, only to be disapointed.

The book has some nice action and Wolf (from the first book) makes a reappearance which saves it from being a total waste.

If you have read the first two, you might as well read this one, just don't expect anything will be answered.
