5.0 out of 5 stars Good Classic Bundle
Warcraft was a hit in its day. Although its pretty outdated war, i still play it now and then because its still a playable rts game. This package contains Warcraft 1, 2 and expansion, all of which are great. This is a great addition to anyone classic game collection although i would suggest buying Warcraft 2 battle.net edition now.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is just an expansion pack
You can only play this game against another player. You need the WARCRAFT II original CD to play this against the computer. This is nothing more than an expansion pack for the original Warcraft II. If I had known this before I purchased, I never would have purchased it.

For the record, I agree with everything everybody has said about Warcraft, and someday I might want...

5.0 out of 5 stars Older but unforgetable, August 22, 2001
This review is from: Warcraft 2 Battle Chest (CD-ROM)
Warcraft II is a worshipful sequel to one of the first real time strategies ever, Warcraft. Although it does not belong to the newest games of this genre, it deserves a preferment in the game world gallery because it started the whole RTS madness and brought many original features never seen before.

The game plot is simple - two races, humans and orcs, fight against each other to exterminate the enemy. A player selects one of the races and then he must command his soldiers and lead them to the final victory. Is that everything? Of course not. The strategy requies lots of different actions - send peasant to mine gold and chop trees to get resources for buildings, train swordsmen, bowmen, knights and wizards, construct siege machines, build boats and ships, fight on ground, water and air. All of this is perfectly dramatized by amazing graphics, music and sound effects. The game promises hours, days and weeks of great fun.

I am really looking forward to Warcraft III which should look even better in 3D environment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warcraft II, March 4, 2000

This is an awesome game for you war/stategy fans. It has way better graphics that warcraft I. This game also has 20 to 25 different units to make it cool. It has the expansion to add a couple of new scenarios and heroes which adds alot more fun. the coolest thing though is the map editor. It allows you to design your own scenarios to play. You can be either orc or human ina your scenarios. the only problem is that you can't change the scenario objectives. I highly recommend this game!

Ok, the first Warcraft wasn't the best when it comes to graphics or any of that heeby-cheeby hullabaloo. But it was a fun game and I mean you like Warcraft II and the Expansion. Dude, they were awesome. Don't mistake me but this is a two thumbs up way up rare occurance. Don't miss out.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest games ever invented for computers..., January 26, 2003

I rate WarCraft II the greatest strategy game ever produced for the computer even to this day. I first discovered it in late 1995 (or 1996) on the servers at Uni, where groups of "clans" would have huge WarCraft battles against each other for much of the day. Yes, nerdy, but the amount of people that stumbled onto this game and made it a huge obsession was incredible.

The thing that makes the game so good is that in these current times, eye candy aside, the gameplay is incredible. The grpahics are still great and guarantee the game won't run slowly or be digressed by superficial videos etc. Besides, since when would you complain about Chess not having great graphics - it's the PLAY that counts. The pieces are so perfectly matched (or maybe because some aren't) that forces the constant pressure of various moves and strategies to stay afloat. This is not the game that can ever be mastered and won easily - the only thing this game guarantees is total immersion and escapism.

I've bought WarCraft III and although it's an amazing piece of software, it just doesn't have the same captivation and basic yet totally captivating gameplay that WarCraft II does.

I cannot recommend buying it highly enough...

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic, May 5, 2000
This review is from: Warcraft 2 Battle Chest (CD-ROM)
Warcraft 2 is an older game but has withstood the test of time better than most. It has the same policies as a modern day tibearn sun. Mine gold, cut tree and build farms. This game is a classic and withle other games may now surpass it this is still worth getting. I can still play it an have a good time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection., January 23, 2001

This is the greatest collection of RTS games there is. Warcraft1 was the first RTS I had ever played, and in it's day, it was GREAT!! but it soon gave way to Warcraft 2. War2 is/was/will-forever-be the best. It combined the great challange of the RTS format without getting the gamer lost in endless lists of pointlessly innumerous units. War2 struck the perfect ballance between simplicity and complexity. War1 didn't have enough units on roster to pick from, while other RTS games have too many different unit types to chose from, many with rather insignificant changes. War2 Beyond the dark portal did nothing but further it's companion, By addind new .pud's for the gamer to play, and a new set of campains with new challanges and increased difficulty, it breathed more life into it's far from dieing world. All in All, Warcraft is the best Real Time Strategy on the market, in it's day AND today.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Original Real Time Strategy Game!, April 25, 2000

These are the games that started it all! The original great real-time-strategy games by Blizzard are classics.

I remember downloading the demo of Warcraft from a local BBS and loving it.

When Warcraft two came out I played this game until the last map, which I never did finish...always irks me.

I have gone back to play these games once in a while to try to relive the fun I had playing them originally, but games get outdated so fast and this set of Warcraft games is no exception.

The originals, these games practically invented a whole gaming genre...and heck it it wasn't fun to keep building and building to see what type of stuff you can get next!

If you can handle playing older games, check them out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Behind the times, December 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Warcraft 2 Battle Chest (CD-ROM)
I played the original Warcraft years ago, and had not played RTS games since. After the release of Warcraft III, I found Warcraft 2 Battle Chest at a great discount price, and purchased it on a whim.

And I've been addicted since. It is a great improvement on and expansion to the original game. Graphics, scenarios, sound, and everything is greatly improved. At the same time the folks as Blizzard have managed to also keep the game simple in the sense that it is easy to learn and use, yet always challenging.

Some of the scenarious are very tricky and challenging.

I've rate it a 4 only because the scenarios sometimes feel a little too scripted. I can play one scenario a few times, learn it, and then play to beat it too easily. Newer RTS games are more random, including much of the newer Blizzard software.

Even though WarCraft III is available, I recommend this as a stepping stone woth taking. A great game.
