5.0 out of 5 stars 2 tier a good size vs. 3 tier which is small!
I bought 2 tier and 3 tier versions for my kids and I thought the 3 tier would be better for my son in that he eats more. BOY was I wrong! The 3 tier has 3 tiers but the tiers are tiny! I am glad I got this 2 tier because he took that and my daughter uses the 3 tier. I can barely fit her half sandwich in one of the tiers.

All in all very well made very well and...

1. I'm not sure why, but the sides of the top container have split, ( Yes, the metal has actually split ), so liquids will leek out. I think this is because the clips are so tight

2. The clips are really tight on the top lid, and the lid jams on and is really difficult to get off ( have to twist and pull a lot ). This is the same as the other 2 star review here mentioned

3. Because it is made of metal, if you put anything hot in it, the Tiffin gets really hot, and the food will cool down quickly, so if you want to put hot food in it, I would not recommend it

I use mine every day to get food from the work cafeteria, so it gets a lot of use. But because of the splitting I have had to throw it away, and get something else

All in all very well made very well and easy to clean. The clips are a little tight for younger than 6 year olds' to open so they mat need some help opening them. The only other bump is what to do with the juice box. To-Go Ware Two Tier Stainless Steel Lunch Box with Sidekick Condiment Tiffin - New Design!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect!, March 21, 2008
This review is from: To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box (Kitchen)
I absolutely love my To-Go Ware lunch box. I enjoy eating salads, sushi, and fruit for lunch, so this is the perfect carrier for my needs. I'll be able to use it for years! The company sent the product in a very timely manner and included some nice literature on the history of the product. I just purchased another for my best friend in NYC. Go for it - you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lunch system, perfect for anyone and everyone!, March 12, 2010

This review is from: To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box (Kitchen)
Great, great product. First of all, the simplicity of the stainless steel is great. It doesn't insulate, it doesn't do anything but hold food, which means that there are no extra chemicals anywhere near my food. I love the tier system, although it doesn't slide easily into my school backpack. I realize that's not what these are made for. I take my lunch, usually a sandwich and a small side snack, like yogurt, and usually just use the top layer because it fits better. I like having both layers though for days when I might not get home till 9 or 10 at night and I can bring more food. The Sidekick is great, but hard to use for something like yogurt if you keep it loose in your bag or whatever, it can start to leak. I think if I put it in the Tiffin itself it would be fine. It's amazing how good your food tastes when it isn't surrounded by plastic or other chemicals. The Tiffin never smells bad because it doesn't absorb odors. I would say, capacity-wise, it holds a proportionate amount of food. If you eat huge lunches, I'd go with a bigger Tiffin. But for a sandwich, a salad, and maybe some fruit, the Tiffin is perfect.

This is a great product and is good for people and the planet. I very highly recommend it to anyone with kids or who likes to eat lunch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should Stainless Steel Rust?, May 21, 2011
By
Kritikos (Charlottesville, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box (Kitchen)
My only complaint about this tiffin is that it is supposedly constructed of stainless steel, yet after just a few months of occasional use, it has developed rust both on the outside (around the clasps) and inside (within the groove along the top of the top tier). Because of rather infrequent use, I am puzzled as to the cause. Perhaps it results from being air dried after I wash it by hand. However, I have not encountered this problem when air drying other stainless steel wares.

It may be safe to continue using it, and perhaps ingesting iron oxide is not toxic, but I would rather not take that risk, and it is certainly unsightly and does not portend well for its durability.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only good in theory..., February 23, 2009
This review is from: To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box (Kitchen)
Actually getting food into and out of this container is a REAL PAIN. The four clasps are extremely tight and it takes a lot of pressure to close them. And opening it is another adventure... especially the top lid. It is so tight that it really takes a LOT of effort to pry off, and I'm not a weak person! I'm constantly worried that the force used to remove the top lid will result in the spilling of its contents all over myself and the table. A real disappointment, I'm going to keep looking for other non-plastic containers and stop using this one.

I love this!!! It's far superior and more eco-friendly than the plastic versions, and you can even ask your local take-away to serve the food in it, so you don't have to take their plastic and styrofoam containers! it looks great, it's tight and keeps the food fresh. Wished everyone would get one of these to take with them for lunch/picnic or when collecting their take-aways...the world would be far cleaner, and you would have less rubbish too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unhappy tiffin, January 28, 2012
This review is from: To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box (Kitchen)
The product is clever (I agree with a previous reviewer that the clips are too tight), but BEWARE of terrible customer service with Happy Tiffin. I received this product and a 12 oz. lunch bowl from a friend for Christmas. Problem was, the Happy Tiffin warehouse screwed up and sent me a box of eight 12 oz. lunch bowls. My generous friend confirmed that she did not intend to send me eight bowls and contacted Happy Tiffin to let them know of the mistake and to find out how I could return the unneeded tiffins. The response she received was a laid-back "tell us what you want to do -- whether you want to keep them or send them back." I said I'd send them back -- and they told me they sent a return label for shipping. It never arrived -- so ten days after that communication I sent five of the remaining seven tiffins back at my expense to the address on the packing slip. I emailed to let Happy Tiffin know that I had sent the five tiffins. That got their attention. Only then did I learn that they needed to AUTHORIZE a return. (Now why couldn't they have said that before or linked me to the complicated returns policy on their website -- which I didn't find until I'd sent the tiffins back?) What they did do was promptly charge my friend's credit card for the two tiffins that I kept -- even though the fact that I had them was their mistake. Happy Tiffin sent a frantic email asking me for the tracking number on the package, saying how difficult it would be for them to track this at the warehouse without their authorized return label. I was so disgusted by the lack of customer care that I was ready to send back all the tiffins, but was informed that they do not allow used tiffins to be returned. The returns I sent arrived within two days of shipment. Happy Tiffin confirmed that it had arrived and that they would get back to us in a few days to confirm that they had received five tiffins. Neither my friend nor I heard from them again. Now, all I think of when I look at these metal containers is "unhappy tiffin" and "bizarre and abysmal customer service."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, distinctive lunch box, August 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: To- Go Ware 2-Tier Stainless Lunch Box (Kitchen)
I got this lunch box about two months ago and so far it hasn't disappointed. It's large enough to hold a regular sized sandwich, and I like having two tiers because I can keep utensils and napkins and other stuff like fruit in addition to having my main meal. You have to understand what you're buying though: it's stainless steel, meaning it's not good at keeping things either hot or cold if left sitting out at room temperature, and because it's metal you can't microwave it. It's extremely durable and looks better as it ages, and I always have people asking me about it when I ride on the subway. All in all it's a visually interesting, utilitarian lunch box and I'm pretty pleased with it. If you want to be able to heat your food then this isn't the lunch box for you, and I have yet to test how leak-proof it is if you hold it sideways (my guess is, not very). Nice product though!
