5.0 out of 5 stars One of the books that made me want to become a writer
I loved the movie, then found the book, and read it, and enjoyed it, without, then, knowing what a novelization was, or is. It didn't matter. David Bischoff's storytelling grabbed me, made me relate to the kid in the book, and all these years later my next novel gets some encouragement from that experience. Thank you, David, you did good. And you still are.

The book of the movie. Completely forgettable, neither good nor bad, but a pretty average example of the genre.

A computer cracker kid gets into trouble when he gets into some military systems and starts a computer system thinking that world war is a game or simulation that it must win.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two Known Editions: Green and Red, February 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: War Games (Mass Market Paperback)
There are two editions of this novelization. The version with the green title as pictured is the original. An alternate version with a red title was produced for the Science Fiction Book Club (as noted on back cover) and has alterations removing references to drugs or altering dialogue to make it about something else (e.g. the conversation between the missile silo operators), though both editions include a bit at the end of chapter 3 about David Lightman reading a shoplifted copy of a another book by David Bischoff, Day of the Dragonstar.

I misplaced my censored copy years ago. I'd appreciate it if sellers would note which edition they have as I would like to reacquire that copy.
