My husband convinced me to try it out, so I bought it. I had to do some toying with it to get it to run on my computer, but that problem was with my video card ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHW4HXY/ref=oh_details_o06_s01_i05?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) somehow. Once I got that fixed, it runs great and my husband and I have a lot of fun playing co-op over LAN. It's your basic RTS set in the Warhammer 40k world.

Don't get me wrong, I thouroughly enjoy the Dawn of War series, but the expansions offer nothing new in terms of mechanics, but simply add new races. In this case it's the Necron and the Tau.

The Necron play differently than all the other races because they don't need requisition. Instead every unit requires power. Capturing stragic points increases your pop cap and speeds up your unit build time though, so you still need to cap them and build listening posts on them. Slow and relentless, it becomes easy to overwhelm your opponent with numbers when you equip your Necron Lord with the Resurrection Orb and instantly raise your army again after they "die."

Tau are a a race that focus on long range attacks; most units fall quickly in melee. Army composition is crucial to balance out the ranged Tau with the melee focused Kroot. The branching, mutually exclusive build paths give your skirmishes a bit more variety than other races, as going down one path bars you from building certain units and attaining certain upgrades. If you take the Kroot path you get an amazing Firewarrior upgrade, but you miss out on the majestic Crisis Battlesuits.

The campaign eschews a linear story with lots of plot and instead introduces a risk-like mechanic where all the races fight over territories which give bonuses to the honor guard of your commander (units you start with) or resource bonuses. Each race's stronghold has a unique ability that gives them a certain advantage, and conquering that race gives you that ability. By the end you're so overpowered that it's laughable. The plot is offered only in the stronghold missions in the form of narration, and in rare cases, dialogue between the leaders.
