Handles what others can't!,
By Where's-the-Sun? (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waring MX1000 Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender, Black (Kitchen)
We have gone through 4 blenders in the last 18 months. We are consumers of high quality products and usually do our research. Each and everyday we make "fruit shakes" for our family of 5. Our mix consists of frozen fruit, sometimes some fresh fruit, yogurt, and oj. Our other blenders burned out, even the Blendtec couldn't handle the job (it automatically shut down on us, plus it couldn't really handle 64 oz. of our mix!). But this guy (okay, it's very masculine looking), can do the job quick and make enough in the mega-sized 64 oz. plus pitcher for all 5 of us (we usually have to make 2 pitchers). Frozen drinks are just about all we use a blender for so for our purposes, this is the only one for us! It's loud, it's scary, it moves about a bit, but it does the job so fast that it doesn't matter that much. It's not that attractive to my eyes, but my DH thinks otherwise. I usually like to store my appliances in cabinets, but this one is too big and heavy to move in and out each day...so on the counter it stays (it's sure to be a conversation piece). I have to say that it makes my life A LOT easier and that is why I rate it a 5.

Waring MX1000 review,
This review is from: Waring MX1000 Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender, Black (Kitchen)
Pros:
Professional smoothies (exactly like Jamba Juice) Very easy to clean Polycarbonate carafe Quick (does its business very quickly) Cons: Expensive (not everyone spends $400 on a blender) Loud (not appropriate for apartment living) Bulky (its significantly larger than a normal blender) When I unpacked this blender I knew right away that it is a very serious machine. The base is very large and heavy duty with two large switches. One is for pulse and the other high and low speeds. The engine is rated at 3 horsepower and power cord is very think similar to the cord used on a high power drill or garage tool. The unit itself has a geared metal socket that matches a toothed metal gear built into the carafe. No plastic clutch that can break. The lightweight polycarbonate carafe sits on four posts, but will need you to hold it down with your hand on top for it to work correctly. The blade is a four prong item that is splayed out and has a broad flat blade on each tooth. The idea here is that a super sharp blade isint necessary as this thing spins very very fast. I was quite startled when I hit the pulse. This thing spins up instantly and is VERY loud. I would almost say twice as loud as a conventional blender. That said it is also very high speed and pulverizes frozen items with impunity. I put in frozen strawberries and this pulverized them so well the seeds were not evident. Ice doesn't stand a chance at all. This device appears to be more powerful than the pro blenders used by the local smoothie place or a gym. It is every bit professional and I would challenge anyone to break this with ice or other items short of metal in the carafe. Cleanup is a snap as everything is plastic or rubber. Gunk under the blades was also not an issue as you just fill the carafe with some water and a quick half second pulse cleans everything in the base. I would caution people in that while this may be the last blender you will ever buy, it is not really a consumer appliance. This machine has as much in common with a standard blender as a chainsaw has with a hair clipper. I really like it but my neighbors hate it. Five stars because it's the Lamborghini of blenders and the smoothies are amazing. But like an exotic car, it's not for everyone.

I got this to replace an Oster blender whose motor burned out. I ordered it without consulting my wife. Initially she was not happy because this one doesn't have all kinds of buttons etc. It is also extremely noisy, you have to hold onto it when using it or it will migrate off the counter, it is heavy, takes up a lot of space, it is pricey, and it can draw 12 amps (don't put it on the same circuit as the microwave!) However, these drawbacks are inconsequential if your principal concern is a product that actually does its job quickly and efficiently. Throw the ingredients in, put on your hearing protectors, turn it on, hold it down, and after 30 seconds or less, you are done. I suppose the pulse switch is useful in some situations but I have yet to need it. The plastic jar is also easier to clean than our old one, which had removable blades. My wife is now a believer even though she hates having to admit I was right! If you don't have hearing protectors I strongly urge you to order some with this blender. I measured the sound at 92 dB one foot away when making a particularly thick smoothie.

Great Blender - so glad I didn't buy a Vitamix,

This review is from: Waring MX1000 Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender, Black (Kitchen)
I have got hooked on making protein rich smoothies to help avoid muscle aches and pains after strenuous work outs. (And they really work, at least for me).
I was tempted to buy a VitaMix, but while doing the research, needed to buy something, so ended up with an Oster Mixer Oster 10-Speed Blender - White that I got from Target for about $17. I was amazed at how well it worked, and decided to see how I got on with it, seeing as how at the price it was I could buy a new one every couple of months and still be ahead of the cost of the VitaMix! As I started to add green leafy vegetables to my smoothies, and make them more viscous, blending became harder work, both for me and for the Oster. While it never gave up, it took its time to do the job, and would smell slightly cooked at the completion. The thought of having a really nice blender had never gone completely away, so I went back to my research. The VitaMix looks very attractive, but I could never quite get over the feeling that I was paying considerably more than I needed to to support all the advertising that they do. I considered the Blendtec, but I was buying something that I wanted to last for a long time, and my experience of membrane keyboards and microprocessor control is that they are terrific when they work, but trying to get them repaired five years after you bought them, often results in a bill that is more than buying a new one, assuming that you can even still get parts to make the repair. Also, I was concerned that learning multiple key presses to do something as simple as turning it on was not a clever idea. The clincher for me in deciding on the Waring was the cost of the replacement jugs. A 64oz container (with blade) from VitaMix is an astonishing $149, whereas the equivalent part from Waring is only $85. Still a lot of money, but a lot more reasonable, and I think an indication of the better value for money that the Waring offers. Add to that the $100 plus price difference between the Waring and the VitaMix, and I decided to go for the Waring. The blender has proved to be everything that I hoped. It is simple, solid, and despite some of the reviews here complaining about the noise level, to my ear, less noisy than the Oster I had been using. As others have said, this is a serious piece of equipment. The motor is very powerful and therefore noisy, but it is a lower pitched less screechy sound than the flimsy Oster made, and as such is easier to live with. Of course, since the blender quickly demolishes everything within it, the noise doesn't last long! Because the motor is so powerful, the starting torque is very high and the admonition in the instructions to hold the top of the jug down is one to be taken seriously. Ingredients are flung upwards as the machine starts with sufficient force to potentially lift the lid if you don't have it held down. I am not a cook, so I don't know if anyone else would need more than two speeds and pulse, but I certainly don't. I also don't need to be able to walk away from it and have it complete the process on its own. I enjoy the few seconds of manufacturing that my smoothies take. I suspect that with all blenders, it makes sense to think about the order in which you load the ingredients. I put liquids in first, followed by soft fruit, vegetables and frozen fruit, and finally ice, and that seems to work well. The instructions say to add ice when it is running, but I haven't found that to be necessary. All in all, an excellent piece of equipment, where the money seems to have been spent on the quality of the components and simplicity of design, rather than on advertising and flim flam.

Great Blender,

This review is from: Waring MX1000 Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender, Black (Kitchen)
I reviewed a quite a few blenders before choosing this one. I was looking something with power and quality.
One set back was I didn't get a recipe manual with mine. But, I don't consider this a real set back since you can get recipes for this type of blender in books geared more to your lifestyle. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and recommend this blender to those looking for well built, highly efficient machine. As far as noise is concerned it isn't so loud you can't hear the next person speak. It is a bearable sound and not as super loud like some people claim. But really, even if it was, how long are going to be pressing the button down to make your shake. This baby will pulverize ice in seconds; imagine what it will do to a shake. Think micro seconds. This motor has power. It's not a wimpy motor that you can hardly hear. If you are looking for a quiet motor then you will be trading power to do things fast. Like a car, you want horse power then be prepared to trade in gas mileage. Pros Plenty of power to cut through chunks of ice and make shop quality blends. Cons Heavy to move around the kitchen. But then this is a professional heavy duty piece of equipment. The reason I bought it and for it to last me years of service.

Bulky, noisy and takes up lots of space - BUT it is the greatest drink mixer you'll ever buy. My wife is the queen of frosty drinks. With this blender the ingredients don't separate half-way through your drinking pleasure. Our old mixer, also touted as a professional blender, caused the ingedients to separate in the glass after about 3 minutes. Have not seen that happening after this blender get's through doing its job. Crushes ice without cringing and is esstially oblivious to anything thrown in, just blends everyting into a great pulp. Highly recommended for the serious frosty drinker.

The torque of this blender can handle anything I throw at it; it has never bogged down. I mostly make fruit + vegetable + ice smoothies. The blender is no louder than other weaker blenders I've used. The blender-to-motor coupler is made of metal (cheaper blenders use plastic, which can wear quickly). The large size is excellent for big batches of smoothie. The tall lid has three layers of sealing stripes, making for a very good seal. The only small complaint I have is that "low speed" isn't low enough for me. The blades spin so fast that I never need "high speed" for my smoothies, even when making a full-load of smoothie. "Low speed" is still fast enough that non-liquids sometimes bounce/float over the blades rather than fall into the blades and get chopped. For example, if I cut a few large apples into quarters and put them in the blender, "low speed" sometimes juggles the apple chunks rather than blending them simply because the blades are spinning too fast. To solve this problem, I use very short bursts of the "pulse" button. This allows the apple chunks to settle back down in-between the blades so that they can be blended the next time I press "pulse". Once the items have been blended enough to form 2-3 inches of liquid at the bottom of the blender, everything blends smoothly.
Besides that small quibble, I am a happy customer and would buy this product again.

Excerpt from my Epinions Review
By: Digital Dude Ok, the first thing you have to deal with is the fact that you just spent an inordinate amount of money on a countertop appliance. Anyway, after you get over that, things do get better. I opted for the 3.5hp MX1200 Extreme but not because of the power bump, but because I wanted the analog variable speed control. Aside from that; it's nearly the same as the MX 1000. As for the speed dial? It was a bit of a gamble since these units are not readily available where you can look, touch and feel, so my selection was based primarily on printed data and gut instinct. The dial provides very smooth and gradual increase or decrease of the blender that is graduated from 1 to 10 and ranging from 1500 to 2000 RPM. Likewise, it includes the large paddle On/Off/Pulse switches. Do I think the speed dial is actually worth the extra 165-bucks? Well, it does provide me with a better sense of control for certain blends, so most definitely! Anyway, the MX1000 unit is plenty overkill for most home kitchen fanatics so don't overlook this more reasonably priced unit. Besides, if you think that 400-bucks is high for the MX1000; try the 1200~series and you will feel like you got off cheap! As such, do not expect any included fanfare like a recipe book or cute little accessories. Based on comments regarding the slightly overwhelming appearance, I opted for the 48-ounce version since I did not need the higher volume, and it is 2-inch shorter so it actually fits under my kitchen cabinetry. As such, it tones down the countertop landscape while being easier on the eyes. BTW, if you want the 64-oz jar later on, you can order it as an accessory. Noise: Well, it is not near as loud as my less expensive Cuisinart, though Waring does offer a sound dampening enclosure. Even with my old hundred-dollar blender, I used hearing protection so this is not anything new. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise since I expected a lot more noise. Here are a few things I considered before purchasing. Design & Support: Despite all of the hype; the proverbial kitchen blender is a fairly basic concept. It consists of a Jar, Propeller and Motor, all combined to create a vortex to evenly circulate the contents in the container for a desired result. Some have programmable features to govern speed while others are more straightforward. * Round or narrow jars appear to rely on a pulsing vertical vortex and blends smaller content items very well. * Square jars permit larger items to be inserted with less preparation. * Cloverleaf jars fall in between and rely on directionality to force the contents back into the propeller. * Performance, Ease of Use, and Product Support (spare parts, accessories, etc.) are all important aspects to consider. Customer Service: If you can call a toll-free number and actually talk with a live person (in your language) and they actually know the product, then that's a big plus. Warranty: The best warranty is the one you never have to use although if you do have an issue, then a 2-3 year parts/labor provision is reasonable. Advice: Read the "customer reviews" on each blender that you're considering, paying particular attention to what people like and don't like'. Always read and follow the manufactures safety precautions and warnings. Keep in mind that raw power of the motor is only part of the equation to a good blender, and that features, style and durability will determine your overall satisfaction. The Bottom Line: If you blend smoothies or any other stuff on a regular bases, or you're simply a quality geek, then you may love this blender as much I do. Regards, ~DD

I have had this blender for two years. This blender is a Professional grade blender. It is very heavy and high quality. We make lots of smoothies using frozen fruit and burned up 3 others before buying this one. If you need a serious blender then this is the model to buy. I have yet to find anything that it can't handle.

After reviewing several high power blenders on line and watching the Montel Williams advertisement for green smoothies I decided to purchase the Waring blender as it was made in the USA. The reviews were all pretty good.
I have found that it works great! I make smoothies with spinach, apples, cranberries, oranges, carrots, tomatoes, bananas, ice and they all blend easily. I don't find that the noise is excessive especially when compared to my old blender that had stripped part of the rotatary mechanism and made a lot more noise and was a low power blender. It is simple to use with only two switches and a high and low and pulse speed. The pitcher is easy to clean. I highly recommend this product even though it is a little pricey.Waring MX1000R Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender |
