5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitchen Addition
This solid (and weighty) piece of equipment does a great job of mixing juices with powdered supplements, as well as ice cream drinks, etc. It has a compact triangular footprint (About 7-1/4" X 9" inches at the widest points) and is very stable. 3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok, but not exactly what I wanted
I got this thinking it would be a good replacement to using a full blender to mix my smoothies. A big blender is just so much to clean all the time. Well, this thing does kind of work for smoothies but it's messy and not very smooth so I gave up on it and it just sits unused on my counter cause it's too tall to fit in a cabinet. For the occasional once a year milkshake...

This solid (and weighty) piece of equipment does a great job of mixing juices with powdered supplements, as well as ice cream drinks, etc. It has a compact triangular footprint (About 7-1/4" X 9" inches at the widest points) and is very stable. It is, however, an extremely tall appliance (18-3/8") which is too tall to fit under some overhead cabinets or on most shelves, so the buyer should check out storage options before purchasing. Although the stainless steel cup is 28 ounces, the maximum fill level is 16 ounces (and minimum is about 4 ounces--smaller quantities would not come in contact with the mixing disk.) This truly is very easy to clean - run with soapy water in the cup to wash and then with fresh water to rinse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durability is the key here, September 23, 2002

This review is from: Waring PDM121 Drink Mixer, Ebony (Kitchen)
I got a deal on this one (clearance) but it's worth the full purchase price. The main thing that sold me was the fact that the whipping blade (agitator) is metal. All the other drink mixers I've seen have a cheap plastic agitator and I've heard stories about them chipping/breaking off which made me very hesitant, even though I've wanted one for a long time. This [one] will not chip or shatter...in fact it did a good job of nicking up my favorite 18/10 stainless steel spoon I was using to stir my first milkshake while it was mixing! It's a solid, well-built addition to your kitchen whether you use it once a month or 10 times a day. (It also looks great next to my KitchenAid mixer.)

I was hesitant about spending over a hundred bucks on a mixer (I just wanted something to make protein shakes), but I'm really glad I got this. It looks great on the counter, is easy to clean, and is a very convenient way to make shakes. Warning: it doesn't crush ice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer savior, May 8, 2000

This drink mixer is a great thing to have in summer when it's hot, though I've also used it in winter. But for making summery ice cream drinks like the Grasshopper, or even non-alcoholic shakes and malts, this mixer rules. It's easy to use and durable enough to use over and over throughout an afternoon or an evening. Just be sure you have enough ingredients, because after you hand out the first drink, everyone is going to want one.

This is the best kitchen item I have purchased in years. Remember the old soda fountains in the drug stores back in the 50's? Remember ordering the frothy vanilla shakes? This mixer will take you back, and you now can relive the 50's and 60's and have truly authentic milk shakes and frappes-and also other types of drinks...Have kids? They will love you for it..Easy to keep clean and the design is sleek and uncluttered. I love it!

My family loves old fashioned, real milk shakes. This product works like a dream and I made a perfect milk shake on the first attempt. It is sort of big and I was trying to find a place to store it in my kitchen and my family laughed. Keep it on the counter, they said, it won't be worth your time to put it away! It is worth every penny!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, September 6, 2006
I, too, was hesitant about spending this much $$ to make milkshakes; however, the kids love to make shakes and the standard blender is hard for them to clean (not to mention the sharp blades). After our first use, my 15-year-old son said that he was "Ecstatic!". Anyone with teenagers knows how hard it is to achieve an emotional response--normally I get a monosyllabic grunt.

My wife and I are happy with this mixer. I won't repeat what other's have said, but my only comment is the silver motor housing is made of shiny plastic. For the cost of this mixer, I would expect it to be made of metal. It does make delicious shakes and it's easy to clean.

4.0 out of 5 stars A delicious gift., June 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this drink mixer for my boyfriend for his birthday. He always has cravings for milkshakes so he will usually go to a fast food place and get one, which isn't real ice cream and just loaded with sugar. So I decided to get him this with some homemade ice cream from a dairy bar near my home. He absolutely loved it. He likes peanut butter so I got him a peanut butter swirl ice cream and the mixer was able to handle the peanut butter as well as my chocolate chips from my mint chocolate chip ice cream. The mixer comes with a recipe book on not just milkshakes but cocktails and frozen mixed drinks. We haven't tried them all yet but they sound really yummy. It did take us a while to figure out the right milk to ice cream ratio but if its too milky just add more ice cream its really not rocket science to use.

My only con is that you have to make sure you put a paper towel down cause there is nothing to catch the ice cream stick to the mixer when you take the cup off to pour. It makes a bit of a mess. Its really not that quiet either it sounds like any moral blender.
