5.0 out of 5 stars retro we have a problem...
this waring commercial type toaster is just grand! the suggested retail price might be out the window but for what amazon[.com] is selling it for , it is a nice deal. retro stainless stuff is great but this appears to be the real deal. heavy duty ... did i say heavy?... yes i did and does it do/fit bagels? ... i do not know yet. but toast comes out toasty...bottom line...

3.0 out of 5 stars Form versus Function
I like this toaster but here's the downside: it's huge, and weighs something like 12lbs; it toasts unevenly, the top being darker than the bottom of the toast, the slots are too narrow for bagels etc; and it doesn't pop up the toast. Here's the upside: it looks GORGEOUS, all gleaming stainless steel; it is a true commercial-grade piece of equipment, designed to toast...

I like this toaster but here's the downside: it's huge, and weighs something like 12lbs; it toasts unevenly, the top being darker than the bottom of the toast, the slots are too narrow for bagels etc; and it doesn't pop up the toast. Here's the upside: it looks GORGEOUS, all gleaming stainless steel; it is a true commercial-grade piece of equipment, designed to toast all day, every day; you can rotate the toast half-way to avoid the unevenness problem; the toast stays warm inside the toaster when done, and as a result is crisper and crunchier.

The decider for you is the old form versus function dilemma. If convenience and even toast is more important to you, you're probably wasting your money on this model. If you (like me) enjoy something about the feel and look of commercial grade steel equipment in your kitchen, you may well enjoy this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice! BUT............, December 21, 2001

Built like a tank. Toasts like a wank! Someone must make a toaster that toasts as good as it looks. This is not the one. The toast is always darker on one side. And it toasts the top of the bread darker than the bottom. I'm sure of this review because my brother has the same toaster and will confirm everything I just wrote!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the Manual., March 4, 2002

The Waring commercial toaster is, as it's name implies, a heavy duty piece of retaurant equipment. The manual tells the casual user that uneven toasting will occur if you use anything but day old bread at room temperature. Following these guidelines the product produces excellent results time after time. The user has infinite manual control over darkness. Well known throughout the industry, this item has a long track record of reliability and heavy duty, continuous use.

This thing is great, it is the size of an engine block and could toast an 80-pound bird! Rock on toast zilla!

A big toaster, but makes a hell of a slice of toast. Worth the money.
