Better game than The original Super Mario Land,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Cartridge)
Yeah, I started playing this game, then, I got hooked to it. Even if it is about 8 years old, still good. I have the Super Mario Land game too. 12 levels for original, for Warioland, about 39 levels. Plus, you can collect treasure to raise your money. At the end, you can change your money into a castle, or better. But I don't want to tell you if you collect 99999 coins. There are more bad guys and you can be a dragon, jet, bull, original, or baby wario. Hey!!! What is Mario doing here? What is he going to do at the ending? Play this game is so fun, try it!!!

Rise of ANOTHER Nintendo franchise!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Cartridge)
I'm not sure how old this game is, but I know I've had it for quite awhile. For those fans of the franchise that have never played the original, I think you should be warned that this plays much like Mario than later Wario games. While this isn't a bad thing (Hardly!), it may disappoint some. You can see the beginings of the style and gameplay of Wario though, including moves and overall look of the game. A good pick if your a fan of Wario, Mario, or (just as likely) both!

Great game!,

This game is simply a great game! It is very long too, I think there is something like 40 levels (although some of them are literally only 2-4 screens long, but really, theres only a couple of those).First of all, there are many many things to discover; like for instance, if you have the hat that has the spikes on top and you jump and hit your head on the "ceiling" and press up on the + pad, youl'l hang there by you head! There are also creative enimies, like there is one that is a dog that throws knives at you, and when the knife hits a wall, it will stick in it! Anyway, this is just a really great game that will entertain you for probably weeks. So all in all, I really recomend this game. Sincerely: Glowis

Good game, but Wario is too slow.,

You play as Wario, and this is a typical platform game. Jump on platform, jump on enemies (some of them).
To make things interesting you collect coins and treasure, there is hidden treasure in this game and you need to complete certain areas, then go back and find the treasure. You need 10 coins to open the last door on every course, the rest of the money you can spend on 2 different minigames. The first one is simply luck, you pick a bucket that you think contains a bag of cash. If you get right, you double coins, if you pick the wrong bucket, you loose half the coins. The other mini-game (you need at least 20 coins) you throw bombs at enemies, time their speed of movement with how hard you throw the bomb. Depending how many you hit, and how much you paid to play (there are three levels), you get different prices. The rest of the money goes into Wario's treasure "vault" (rather screen) The graphic and the music are really good for gameboy. There are power-up hats for Wario to wear. A viking hat that enable you to "butt" the ground so enemies fall over and crush blocks. Dragon-hat that breaths fire. A jet-hat that enables you to fly forward a certain distance. And just the regular hat, so you can become regular Wario instead of mini-Wario (which you become if hit by a monster) The game automatically saves itself, so you just turn the game off when you feel like it. My biggest issue with this game is how bad Wario moves at times. In the beginning, he feels a little slow and clumsy. Near the end, especially when fighting bosses, you get irritated. Wario mostly died in the game because he jumped to short or he moved to slow. I mean, the guy walks snail-speed! And most of the bosses are very quick, so even if you jump, Wario is so slow he dosen't get halfway up in the air, gets hit and dies. And other time, he LANDS so slow after jumping, he lands in the faces of the monster and dies! Talk about annoying! The last boss just feels helpless trying to have Wario save the day, you are supposed to climb up on clouds and hit the boss head, but Wario is so slow the clouds fly away before he can jump up on them! He also dogdes the boss attacks badly, like mentioned previously, if he manages to get away from one attack, he usually end up landing badly on a monster and dies anyway.

This was by far the best super Mario land game. Warioland had brand new gameplay, all new levels, and great fun to play threw. Finding the treasures was a blast, the bosses were great and Wario is awesome. I have nothing bad to say about this game. Nintendo makes the most fun games and Wario Shake it on the Wii is a wonderful addition to this series. Awesome job Nintendo.

Wario's first is a Gameboy classic.,

Wario first appeared as an antagonist for Super Mario Land 2, and he proved to be worthy enough to be the subject of the third SML, which is kind of a misnomer, since Mario only makes a cameo at the ending. (I won't spoil what happens, but it's pretty funny.) Instead, Wario begins his own series, which is to say is quite fun.
GRAPHICS: It's an original Gameboy game, so it has as much color as the first Clerks movie. Still the sprites are not bad looking, though Wario kind of looks weird, especially without his classic hat. MUSIC: Catchy 8-bit tunes, mostly. I always liked WL's music.. STORY: It doesn't explain what's up in the game, and I don't really remember much about the plot, so I'll try my best to sum it up. In SML2, Wario takes over Mario's castle. And of course, Mario kicks him out at the end. So a distraught Wario looks for treasure at this island, which has areas named after food and such. The antagonist is Captain Syrup, a woman who is the leader of pirates. GAMEPLAY: It has the elements of a Mario game, plus more. Wario can charge into enemies, pick them up, and collect hats that act as powerups. One hat allows you to do a butt stomp, one allows you to breathe fire, and the last allows you to soar in the air. When Wario gets hit, he turns small, just like Mario. You can also use your coins you collect as weapons, and you need to use them to beat levels and get to checkpoints. At the end of the level, you can play one of two games, where you can either gamble to double your money up to three times, or play a throwing game for lives. Your remaining money in the level adds up to a total, and at the end of the game the treasures you can acquire adds up, also. The castle you get in the end depends on how much money you get. There are also hidden exits in some of the 40 levels in the game, and there's even a secret world. BUY: This one's a keeper. Though short, it's quite good for its time. You should also check out the other Wario games, because they are unique on their own ways too.

Where to begin. When I was eleven, I wanted some kind of a video game. My parents agreed to get me a Gameboy for my birthday. Warioland dates '93, the first time I played it was on demo at Wal-Mart was in '94, so it was still relatively new. It didn't look as impressive at first glance, but I asked for it anyway.
Ha! Well birthday came, and I got them both! Then a funny thing happened...my dad got so addicted to the game he hogged it for the first couple weeks! HAHA! Now does that tell you anything about how addicting and fun the game is? I hafta hand it to my dad, he has more tenacity and would simply hack away at any game until he beat it. I remember he slaved away for weeks trying to beat Warioland...and I was still stuck one the first couple levels (when I actually had the chance to play it!) Okay, finally he beat it and I had my crack at it, not to mention my dad knew the tricks to help me beat it, so no complaints there, ha. Warioland turned out to be much more complex, time consuming and detailed than it had looked on that demo station months earlier...my dad and I both marveled at how good it was. Talk about a stinker of a game to beat, some of the bosses and levels were just MEAN (remember the ghost of Parsley Woods? ACKPTH!) The game ends on a particularly fun bang where you fight your way into the bandits castle and fight an evil genie as the final boss. I replayed that boss round so many times it was just entertaining. Needless to say, I replayed the whole game numerous times, and probably caused more wear to my Gameboy because of it. The poor thing looks pitiful now, half the screen is fried, but it was loved, and let's face it...both the Gameboy and Warioland earned their money's worth!

The Wario Land games have been a pretty long-lasting series of bashing, enemy throwing, pouncing fun, but would you ever believe that the series started out as a conclusion to the Super Mario Land trilogy? The gameplay has changed so much from Super Mario Land 2 (Although you can probably still tell it was made from that game's engine), that it may as well go into a series of its own in the first place!Remember how extremely bizarre the worlds were in the previous games? Well, Wario Land is no different when it comes to that, but what it actually brings you could make you think "What the heck..?", and not in a bad way, either. These new landscapes are very interesting and fun to explore. Along with Wario's regular bash attack, Wario can collect power-ups to replace it, such as a Dragon Hat that blows fire, a Viking Helmet that upgrades Wario's bash attack and gives him a Ground Pound move, and a heart (More on that below). There is a Heart Counter, in which when you reach 100 hearts, you earn an extra life. You get these from killing enemies or collecting them from power-up boxes (As 20 hearts). As you earn more coins and treasures, you could change the game's ending scene depending on how much you have. Wario could buy several different representations of his money-wise condition, from poor (Birdhouse) to extremely mouth-watering rich (Mansion). All of those new gameplay quirks make the traditional gameplay pretty unique, making it stand out from the other entries in the Mario Land or Wario Land series.

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Nintendo Game Boy),

Intro: Wario was in his canoe when suddenly a duck on a large ship appeared, Wario was shocked and started to chase this Duck around and around several times until Wario tricked the Duck and smashed in to the front of his Ship and then the title appeared and Wario gave everyone his cool looks.
Storyline: Wario must save the great Princess Syrup from an evil genie of which is the big boss of this game, Wario has to go through many challenging and fun worlds in order to reach the last world, it is very challenging and there are lasers shooting at you. Wario has to avoid many dangerous creatures such as: Ducks, Devils with swords, Duck heads that bounce up and down, as well as many other helpless creatures. Graphics: For it being an Original Game Boy game, the graphics are great. The only things better they could have done for the graphics and creatures is I see a few creatures on the cover that I don't think where actually in the game itself and the graphics for the last boss: The Genie, the graphics are terrible being the last boss, and they shouldn't make each boss opening be waves and several other weird intros that have nothing to do with what the action in the game is about. Glitches: Every game has glitches, but this game just has too many glitches such as Start B(16) and then you get a bull hat, frog hat, or Jet Wario. Just way too many to think of off hand...... Music: The music for an original game boy game is great, but I don't like when you die the creatures still move around in the background, and the music is still going for quite a while after your death. For the most part, the music is pretty decent, I especially like the train ride music as that matches the train levels perfectly. Level Design: The level designs are pretty decent however there is just not enough to say due to the fact that there are SO Many glitches practically a glitch per level, the only ones without glitches are the Train Levels and those are my favorite levels so they are 10/10. Sound: Sometimes the sound is poor, not much to say as sometimes it gets jumbly. Please get this game:) J.R. |
