Wario: Master of Disguise has been getting a lot of bad press and reviews, and though they are mostly justified I believe this game is still worth a look.

The main complaint, that you have to draw these silly little symbols on Wario, is valid. Sometimes it doesn't work. Personally, I would have prefered the action be on the top screen, like New Super Mario, and have the map and large "buttons" on the bottom screen to tap and change easily, like Super Princess Peach.

But this is not reason enough to completly write this game off. It's level designs are very clever, and the sense of aqcomplishment upon reaching a new, out-of-the-way treasure chest is great.

The humor, while no-where near as good as any Inteligent Systems release, is still great and ads a lot to the game. I mean, who doesn't love seeing poo run across the screen. Seriously.

Anyway, give it a shot. It's a nice little game.

I was glued to this game for two weeks straight! It does have its downsides, but overall I still think it's well worth buying and playing.

Pros:

-This game has a good balance of arcade action and mental puzzles as you have to figure out which disguise is best suited to the situation, and how to make it work. Even as an adult I was still scratching my head at some parts! It was kind of cool to have to earn and collect new disguises, and each disguise has two levels, so you keep finding new things all the way up to the end of the game.

-It follows the classic Wario format--you play the role of a greedy, nasty little fat man who will do anything for some more treasure! You go around locating and opening treasure chests through mini-games, and have to tackle a "boss" at the end of each level. This game format can be pretty fun, as you know from past games.

-The frequent save points that you can go back to whenever you like is nice. I hate some of the Mario games where you have to wait sooo long between save points.

Cons:

-It almost tries TOO hard to utilize all the DS features. Having to use both the D-pad AND the stylus at all times feels awkward at first, though you get used to it quickly. I, for one, got a little lightheaded after having to blow into the microphone to keep Demon Wario afloat.

-In Brain Age we discovered that the DS handwriting recognition isn't too reliable, and this game proves that sometimes it just can't tell a circle from a square. It's really annoying to die and have to go back to your save point because it couldn't figure out what disguise you were trying to draw while you were fighting a boss.

-I know this is never a strong point in any nintendo game, but the script is terrible. Mostly it's a tedious string of references to farting. This makes it ideal for the 8-12 age group, though.

-The mini games are pretty lame.

Overall, if you buy this game, be prepared for fun--but also a bit of frustration.

This game really makes use of the capabilities of the DS. You have to use the touch screen to change disguises and use the disguises to make it through the levels. The boss challenges really make use of all the diguises you currently have, but sometimes even if you draw the correct shape, you do not get the diguise you want. I have the most trouble with the Cosmo disguise since it sometimes gives me the Artist. There is alot of text that you can't skip, just slightly speed up. Most of my other DS games I rarely use the stylus, but with this one it's in my hand the entire time. I have not beat the game yet so I hope I'm not disappointed. I didn't like the game when I first got it, but it's growing on me. I really liked the Warioland games and thought this would be as good; so far I've been left wanting.

i really do enjoy this game it's pretty standard "wario" but it's fun.
the "t.v." concept was a little wishly washy but hey it's all about the
funny. sometimes as gamers we get to caught up in Graphics,Story lines and
Past Genera comparisons. Let's just have stupid fun once and a while.

Anytime Wario has starred in his own game, it's either been a collection of fun mini-games or a very good platformer. Wario: Master of Disguise is the latter of the two, mixing some puzzle elements and use of the stylus and touch screen of the DS to boot. Unlike past Wario Land games, Master of Disguise is just as it's name implies, as you use the touch screen and stylus to change costumes, which also have their own unique abilities as well. Each room you progress through is basically it's own puzzle, and you have to use your various costumes to sovle it and advance. While this provides for some interesting gameplay elements, in the long run the gameplay is too repetitive and drawn out. This alone is what kills Master of Disguise, as you find yourself doing the same thing over and over again at various points throughout the game. This, combined with some graphical glitches and the fact that stylus and touch screen controls are glitchy as well, and Master of Disguise ends up being pretty disappointing. It's fun and interesting for a little bit, but in the end, Master of Disguise just comes up way short for a first party Nintendo title.

This is very good game. I don't know why many find the symbols hard to write: I don't. It is very long (like usual Nintendo fare), lots and lots of fine humor (not as gross as the Rabbid's) and many many minigames are the icing in the cake!

I'd prefer to rate it just 4.5 stars as sometimes is difficult to tell where to go, but, alas, can't do.

This game is simple but quiz and puzzle mix together.
Find green, purple and red treasure chest to go thru each stage.
It is fun for perhaps 8+ to adult. It is hard for my son 6 years old to figure out how to go thru some places so he needed help. I helped him and I'm the one enjoyed playing this game. I recommend to adult as well.
Wario character is catchy for people who knows Mario so kids like it but not for under 8 or 10 I think they might need some help for adult.

So I got this game about 4 days ago. I am on episode to now for an hour. Not sure how to end this level? But the game overall is okay. I like changing the disguises to various things. The biggest thing I don't like is not knowing where I am going or what I am suppose to do. I bought it here almost new for $[...] so I figure once I get the hang of it that it's worth about that.

I have really loved some Wario games in the past. I thought Twisted and Smooth Moves were simply brilliant. I have to say I felt a bit let down by Master of Disguise for several reasons.

First, the basic concept. You are Wario, a bored couch potato. Suddenly you learn about a super-thief and want to be like him. In no time at all you've stolen the thief's secret wand and have begun thieving. The wand lets you instantly don any disguise, as long as you draw the correct symbol with your stylus. Each disguise gives you different abilities - firing a laser, leaping high, etc.

This is problem number one. For some reason, the game just doesn't understand what you're drawing half the time. So you're in the middle of an intricate sequence of movements, and need to switch disguises, and the game simply refuses to understand what you're asking for. If you know what the disguise sequence is to solve the puzzle, the challenge shouldn't be making that circle or check or whatever exactly right so the wand does what you want it to do.

Next, as you go left and right on your little side scrolling screen, sometimes there are places that it seems you should be able to go to - but the game won't let you. Then there are other places that look impossible to get to - but you're allowed to go there. It adds a bit of frustration as you randomly try directions until you find one that works.

I do really like the mini-games in the chest, and how they can challenge you. Some of them are a bit on the gross side - guide the poop pile so it lands in the toilet? I mean, Wario games in the past had a "stick the finger in the nose" puzzle - but handling poop is a whole 'nother level of disgusting.

To go with this, I found some of Wario's incessant (and unskippable) dialogue to be over the line obnoxious. I know Wario is a bad guy and I don't mind at all "playing as him" in some of the other games. But in this one, I really just didn't like being him. I didn't like having to sit through the long cut scenes. I play games to relax and have fun - and the cut scenes were the opposite of fun.

I really appreciate the idea behind this game, and think it's a great setup in general. If a new version came out with the same basic idea but with many tweaks in the stylus recognition and the cut-scene area, I would really love it. This release just doesn't quite make it.

If you play video games to relax don't buy this game. The opening story takes a good 15 minutes to get through, if I wanted to read I'd have picked up a book. It uses the stylus a LOT and half the time it doesn't read what you're trying to input. I was looking for an adventure game to relax on a rare day off and I just finished Mario v DK March of the Minis. After a half hour of messing with these rotten controls and the endless tutorial text I tossed the game and gave up. Total waste of 30 bucks and 30 minutes.
