5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fast, Addictive as Heck
This really is the game for people with attention deficit disorder. Each level contains about 10 minigames, each of which you play for three seconds.

It's cute, and fun, but it can also be very frustrating, because you're only allowed to mess up a certain number of minigames per level. Once you pass that, you have to start the level over.

I originally gave this game...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great if you have A.D.D.
This game is really lots of mini games rolled into one. It's a solid original concept. Some of the games make you laugh so hard you nearly wet yourself when you see them for the first time (i.e. finger in the nose) and some can be quasi infuriating at first. I beat the game pretty fast though so I could only give it 3 stars even though thats the only knock on this game.

I originally gave this game only 3 stars, but after playing and playing and playing it I've had to edit my review and up my rating. It's truly addictive, lots of fun, and (despite what another reviewer said) appropriate for all ages. (Honestly, imagine being worried about your child seeing nose-picking. I don't know any little kid I haven't seen picking his or her nose at least once!)

One bonus -- you can unlock the full version of the classic game Dr. Mario. It's even better than the original Gameboy game, because it's in full color, the viruses have faces, and it's Wario, not Mario, tossing the pills.

Bottom line: this game is pure fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast pased fun - hard to put down, May 26, 2003
This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
WarioWare is sort of a hard game to explain. The main game presents the player with 10-25 short challenge games followed by a "boss game" which lasts a little longer. The short games are shown to the player with no explaination given and you get 3 to 5 seconds to complete them. Some of them are self-explainatory (one is Donkey Kong and you have to jump the rolling barrel) while some are incomprehensible at first. You have to play them several times to figure out what the objective is and how to accomplish it. There are so many different games presented in random order that it never seems to get old.

The games are grouped into several categories. Sports, IQ games, Nintendo (a collection of minigames modelled after classic games), Scifi, Wacky, Food, and others. Many of the games are laugh out loud funny, and some are juvenile but made me laugh any way. I'll describe some of them briefly - remember you only have 3-5 seconds to do this. 1) Eat a banana 2) escape getting stomped by a foot 3) help the aliens escape getting caught in a glass 4) Cut through a piece of meat for dinner 5) Brush someone's teeth 6) stick a finger in a nose 7) put eyedrops in an eye 8) Karate chop through wood 9) block a soccer ball from a goal 10) Hit baseballs coming at you.

Hopefully those descriptions give you some idea of the flavor - there are over 200 to do. As you go through the game and beat the levels, you unlock other games. After you have beaten a level you can go back and play the games you beat for practice. Some of them are 2 player mini games that are played at the same time with two people on one GameBoy. Still more gameplay is squeezed out by going back and trying to get the high score on an individual level or a group of levels. You go back and play them over and over for score until you lose.

Some of the games require reading so young children may need a little help with them. Otherwise this is a game that all ages (both boys & girls) will enjoy. Wario Ware gets 5/5 - highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for Adults, June 9, 2003
This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
This game is a lot of fun! The game centers around completing several 5 second games in rapid succession. These 5-second mini-games include a wide variety of topics, including shaking a dog's paw, cutting meat, hitting rabbits on the head, and matching parts of vegetables. There are over 200 mini-games, and it will take hours and hours of game playing to unlock and complete all of them.

If you are from the "old" NES school (like myself), you will love the mini-games associated with the character "9-Volt". There are mini games based upon such classics as the original Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Hogan's Alley, Duck Hunt, and many more!

Once you unlock a game, you can play that one game as many times as you can in a row. Although this sounds like it should be easy, the game speeds up the action and it becomes very challenging and fun. I've been playing my GBA to kill time waiting in line, because the game is not linear in the traditional fashion.

Enjoyable, challenging, and non-traditional. All great qualities, especially at a time when the best GBA games are primarily re-releases of SNES titles!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Addictive, Zany Funfest, June 24, 2004
This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
Wario Ware Inc. Megagame$.

After seeing that Electronic Gaming Monthly gave Wario Ware 9.5 out of 10(Fairly uncommon for a Game Boy Game), I decided to pick this game up. First off, know that Amazon's price is a little steep, and you can usually find this game for about 19.99$ anywhere, so if you want this game, don't worry about getting it! After giving Wario Ware a whirl, I was pleasantly surprised and grateful for getting it, as it's just what I needed for the Summer. A game that NEVER GETS OLD! Usually Summer's a bummer, but whenever I got bored, I just popped this game in and played it for hours. In other words, BUY IT! Below you will find reasons this game is so good.

PROS-
-OVER 200 MINI-GAMES- I sware, there are literally hundreds of games in one game! All of them are different, and each is fun in its own special way!
-ORIGINALITY- Wario Ware, without a doubt, is one of the most original games I've ever played, and I doubt you'll see another game even remotely like this one. For that reason, it stands out against such tired Mini-Game Video Games such as Mario Party.
-EASILY ACCESIBLE- No matter what age you are, this game is very straightforward and easy to learn. You only use the A, B, and Direction Pad buttons.
-FUN FOR ALL AGES- OK, I'm not sure if an 80 Year Old guy would like this, but Adults and Kids alike would have fun with this game, and maybe a few Senior Citizens...
-CHEAP-Unlike the price on Amazon, you can easily find this game at most Video Game Stores(Best Buy, EB Games, Circuit City) quite cheap, in the range of 15.99-19.99$. You can't miss out on this deal!
-VARIED MINI-GAMES- From Mini-Games where you Pick Someone's Nose, Brush Someone's Teeth, to shooting Basketballs, there are many different Mini-Games, and they are all different!
-ADDICTIVE "NEVER-ENDING" GAMES- Once you beat a certain amount of stages, you unlock "Never-Ending" games, which you play for High Scores. These games include "Jump Forever", "Paper Airplane", and "Skating". These games are the most addictive of the lot, and it's fun to play with your friends for High Scores.
-LITERALLY, NEVER GETS OLD!- I Have beaten this game A LONG TIME ago, yet I still play it and it seems as fresh as when I bought it. Excellent Replayability!

CONS-
-NOT REALLY A GAME....- REALLY, WARIO WARE IS JUST A BUNCH OF MINI-GAMES THAT YOU MASTER TO UNLOCK NEW ONES, SO DON'T COME IN EXPECTING A COMPLEX GAME LIKE ZELDA OR MARIO.
-NO PLOT- Really, there's no discernable plot in this entire thing, and it's painfully obvious this is a Japanese Game.
-TERRIBLE MUSIC- UGH! Please, unless you want to listen to the same annoying and grating techno music over and over and over(and over x Infinity), please turn the volume all the way down on your Game Boy.

Overall, if you're looking for a fun game to pass the time, without worrying to much about plot and mechanics, Wario Ware is for you. This is one of the funnest and most addictive games I own, and the only reason I'm giving it 4 Stars is its lack of a Plot and everything else.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! THIS GAME REALLY PASSES THE TIME WHEN YOU'RE BORED! NEVER GETS OLD, AND STAYS INTERESTING FOREVER! CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO BEAT EVERYTHING(I STILL HAVEN'T DONE IT!)!

Also Recommended-

Sonic Advance 2-Game Boy Advance
Mario Party- Nintendo, Gamecube
Fusion Frenzy- X-Box

This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
this is one of the greatest games for the GBA i have ever played!! You can play over 200 microgames from 9 different sets such as sci-fi, sports, and many others. Now let's get to the rating.

Graphics- 8.5 many of the graphics in the micrgames look like they were made with the paint program and others push the GBA graphics to the max

Sound- 9.5 even though most of the microgames are about 5 seconds long, the sounds for most of them are very apropriate

Gameplay- 10 The microgames in Wario Ware Inc. are absolutely addictive! Even though you can probably beat all the developers games in a few hours you will continualy want to go back and unlock others.

Replay Value- 10 With over 200 microgames as well as extra unlockable games with a few for two players, you will be playing Wario Ware until you have completely beaten the game

Overall- 10 Despite some minor imperfections in the sound and graphics department the gameplay and replay value more than make up for it

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure fun...., June 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
I'm not going to say much here, I'll leave the game descriptions to the many other reviews.

I'm going to be 40 years old in a few months (yes - 40, not 4, not 14) and I'm addicted to this delightful game. This is one of those games that people of any age can enjoy, particularly when you are not in the mood for deep thinking of a strategy game. The simplicity of design, the variety and creativity of the games make it irresistible. I play whenever I get a few free minutes (between meetings, feeding the baby, etc.)

wario Ware, Inc. is one of the best GB games I've ever purchased (and I've got many). I don't think I'll tire of it anytime soon. This game is pure fun. I hope they develop a sequel to the game and that others developers learn from it to create games as unique and fulfilling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Staggering Originality, September 13, 2003
By
Matthew Warner (Providence, RI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
When this game was first released in the Japanese marketplace (bearing the more-awkward title "Made in Wario") it created a bit of a stir for being odd, even by Japanese standards; this from the marketplace that brought you a game about nosehair fighting. However, it also quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most original, stylistic, and addictive little games ever released by Nintendo. The gist was that Wario -- a greedy, arrogant mirror-world counterpart to the better known Mario -- set about to break into the newly lucrative video game market by making THE next game to have.

Of course, when you're Wario, you're also as lazy as can be, a trait that isn't exactly productive to the time-consuming process of making a great game.

Quickly, Wario hatches a plan: Why not recruit all his friends and have everyone churn out as many games as possible in the shortest amount of time? No need to make them deep, just make lots of them!

So, what the game becomes in practice is a devilishly simple concept that, nonetheless, is so new and refreshing that it's impossible to put down. Players are confronted with an ever more rapid stream of "Microgames" and given about five seconds to react to (and solve) each one. All the games use only the Directional pad and the "A" button, sometimes even less, and are usually simple enough that it becomes clear WHAT you're supposed to do, even if you're not sure WHY you're doing it.

For example, in one scene the player is confronted with a 2D view of a monochrome Ninja standing on the ground a given the command "sidestep!" Then, a series of arrows fly in from the background. It's pretty clear what you're supposed to do, and the trick becomes reacting fast enough to do it. Then it's on to the next microgame, and they start to come faster and faster until the player finally fails four of them.

While this premise is good enough to make the game stand on it's own, what really makes this an A-list title is the sheer amount of polish and fine tuning that's evident in every aspect of gameplay. The art style is so gleefully insane that even the most bizzare games fit in perfectly (and there are plenty of jaw-droppingly bizzare microgames, don't worry.) Half the fun becomes simply seeing what the game is going to throw at you next. It's so unpredictable the first time through that it's hard to believe what you're playing half the time. Of course, the games are over so fast that you'll probably find youself, at one point or another, saying "Did I just...Nah, I didn't see that right."

To further make the game worth the time and effort, Nintendo has packed more unlockables into one cart than you'd have thought possible. As you continue to rack up high scores, more and more of the game begins to unfold, and hardly any milestone the player reaches goes unrewarded. For example, a full version of the NES classic "Dr. Mario" (here renamed Dr. Wario, but still the same exact game) is included in the cart for those willing to work for it. Depending on your gaming habits, that alone may make the game worth the money.

What will probably strike most people about this game is simply the fact that it exists at all. This is an idea that, in the wrong hands, would have been instantly banished to the bargain-bin as an incredibly sub-par package deal. Leave to Nintendo, tongue firmly in cheek, to take an insane idea and turn it into a must-have, style-loaded, unforgettable title.

When I first heard about this game I thought I wouldn't want to play it. Minigames? What's the point? My old game and watch gallery cartridge was gathering dust.

I couldn't be more wrong!

This game is amazing! You play 5 second games, all growing ever faster and more difficult. You can unlock some great stuff too, like the full version of Dr. Mario! So you might have 5 seconds to shoot the mother brain in Metroid, or to jump a hurdle, or cut through a steak! Strange games, very post modern, but man are they addictive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absurdly addictive, very fun -- even for non-gamers., January 31, 2004

I got this game recently after having played it in a store display. It's really exciting to me as a gamer because it reduces games to the barest essentials. No instructions save for a single word, your wits and quick reactions. It's all about speed and problem-solving... and it's over in the blink of an eye.
But that doesn't mean you have to be a hardcore button-masher with reflexes that measure in the nanosecond range. My girlfriend, not a big videogame fan beyond Tetris, has become addicted to this game.
It's got simple games that ask you to perform a single task, and the simplicity is the draw. But for those who can figure it out, the games get faster (to a point where it's either physically impossible to complete them in a given time or you've got to have unbelievable reaction and control) and more challenging. And with over 200 games, there's plenty of variety.
Some have said the game is too short. Yes, it doesn't take long to unlock everything, but that's part of the fun. And even when everything's unlocked, you've got the unbelievably challenging "Thrilling" mode which throws level 2 & level 3 versions of the games (every game has three levels of difficulty) at you, and failing even once means game over. This has kept me coming back for more.
Plus you get Dr. Wario, a clone of Dr. Mario and every bit as fun as the original, and several unlockable mini-games. My only complaint is that the game you unlock for getting the high score in all other games is a bit too easy -- but hey, there's still Thrilling.
The game has a totally warped sense of humor, and you'll be scratching your head wondering where most stuff came from (bouncing melons off of people; picking noses; shaking dogs' hands; covering a big gut with a t-shirt, etc), but it's great fun.
And the best part? You can pick it up and quit with ease, assuming you're not addicted. If you just want a quick fix to relax your mind, it's perfect. But just be careful... one game will turn into two... which turns into three, and so on.

I love it. Worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game!, November 4, 2003
This review is from: Wario Ware: Mega Microgames (Video Game)
I was looking for a game to take on a trip and i saw this game. if you dont like playing for a long time, this is for you. it would be 5 stars but i rated it 4 stars because it is easy. you have a bunch of differnt characters and they each have their own genre, then you play through a bunch of 10 second games to get to the boss and you go through like that. some of the bosses that you beat give you extra games. you always have fun playing this game and it takes a long time to get tired of it and i recomend people to buy it.
