5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging but conquerable, November 16, 1999

I can't wait to get home every evening to pick up this game where I left off! I have been through the whole game 3 times, finding new things every time. On this last tour I found new side "chapters" and stories, which makes the game even more fun and keeps my interest going. I like it that Wario is immortal (don't have to start over all the time, like Mario Brothers), and that I can Save my current game. Great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best platformers to come out in a while, June 10, 2000

= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This is definitely one of the best platform games to come out in a while, on any system. Rather than rehashing regular side-scroller formulas, resulting in the same old run, jump, die. In Warioland II (and it's follower Warioland III) Wario is immortal, meaning that you can not die; also, the levels have no time limit. This may make one think that the game is very easy, but this is not necessarily true. You can be forced to repeat sections of the level due to a mistake; this happens in particular when fighting bosses, which may be frustrating at times as one hit=starting the battle over, but does not detract from the overall fun of the game, as they can be disposed of with practice. The focus of this game is solving puzzles to beat the levels. Wario experiences different conditions which may or may not be advantageous, depending on the situation. Also, a nice surprise is that when you beat the game, you discover you've only completed half of it, and must uncover secret passages leading to alternate storylines. All in all this is a truly excellent game, and you can bet I'll be getting Warioland III as soon as I possibly can.

5.0 out of 5 stars kick a**, January 23, 2000

This game is one of the first games to come out on the gameboy colour and it is a success. There are so many levels to keep you interested, and it will take you longer than a few days to coplete this, even for the most advanced gamer. There are so many secret passages and hidden treasure that even though you have finished the game, there is still more for you to discover. When you do finish it, you will find that there are still stacks of levels that you haven't copleted. For you see it is similar to a choose your own adventure book where after you have finished reading it, you can go back and read the other cenarios. The graphics are top notch and the gameplay is fantastic, each level is different in its own way and also challenging. A must.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best!, December 17, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Warioland II (Game Cartridge)
This is the BEST game I have ever played. The REAL final chapter is awsome! You have to beat one of the game`s many Giant Spearmen (Which are actually GIANT Gooms)without touching the floor! And there are SIX different final bosses, and after you beat the game you get to play a mini game Flagman D.D. (which is just like Simon). I would recomend this game to EVERYONE!

5.0 out of 5 stars A handheld classic., February 2, 2009

Finally, I'm back. That ice storm was terrible.

1998 was not a bad year at all for Nintendo. The younglings were captivated by Pokemon Red and Blue, while people admired N64 classics such as Banjo Kazooie and Ocarina of Time. The Gameboy finally left the realm of black and white, and one of the first games with color was this classic.

GRAPHICS: WLII gave players a fresh new feel for Gameboy games with its colors and clear sprites. Nothing special by today's standards, especially when it's bloated up on an emulator.

MUSIC: The typical bleeps and bloops of Gameboy. However, the tunes are actually quite catchy.

STORY: Epic enough to be a Square Enix RPG story. Okay, not really. If you played the first WL, you could understand Captain Syrup's qualm with Wario. He destroyed her castle, took her genie, and made his own fortress. As revenge, she sends her soldiers to flood Wario's castle and raid his treasure. Of course, Wario sets off to get his loot back and then some. (Hint: If you let Wario sleep on the first level, the plot changes)

GAMEPLAY: Okay, first off, I want to say the obvious. Wario, in both II and III, is invincible. Crush him, light him on fire, make him jump on spikes, he's like Chuck Norris. That doesn't mean that the game is challenging. In actuality, you need to hurt Wario a few times during the adventure to beat the game. Lighting Wario on fire can help him to destroy special types of blocks. Crushing him allows him to access narrow spaces. And so on.
Each world is divided into five levels, the last with a boss fight. Since Wario's invincible, the bosses' attacks send you out of the room, so they still are difficult. Each level has a secret door where you can play a matching game for a treasure. You need coins to play the game, and the more coins you have, the easier difficulty for the game you can choose. After the level, there is a minigame where your total amount of coins can be used to play a game that involves figuring out what number is hidden by the panels. Win and you get a piece of a map. A map to what? Well, you'll find out once it's complete.
But if you get all the map pieces, you'll notice that almost half the map is still empty. As it turns out, the game's not over yet. Once you defeat Syrup, the world map will open, where you'll notice paths that extend from certain levels. Those levels have secret exits, which will take you to hidden worlds. There are multiple endings in the game, and once you get everything, there is a surprise waiting for Wario.

BUY: Order it up, or download if you feel like living on the wild side. Either way, you'll be entertained.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it, espicially for how big the game is..., April 3, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Warioland II (Game Cartridge)
This game is huge and I'm not even kidding. In this game you play as Wario through exactly 51 stages, each of whom you have to find the minigame room which when you beat you get a treasure. Also at the end of each stage you have to play another mini game in which if you win you'll get one of 50 pieces of a map. I know you unlock (spoiler the difficultest stage in the game if you find all 50). Specific stages has two exits, each one leads ya to a different area. Anyways I played this over and over because I found this game to be entertaining because it was so fun and big. I quite often found myself forgeting where the treasure in specific stages were at, yea I'm that bad. But usually I end with everything. I believe this game has a 50 hour game time, it all depends on how good you are at platformer games. It's definitly worth it just for the size of the game overall so go ahead and buy it :) probably the best choice you'll make overall if you don't have this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wario Land 2- Best Platformer on the GBC, February 9, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Warioland II (Game Cartridge)

Even after 12 years, this game is still addicting and fun. From finding all the treasure's, to filling in the missing picture, and getting all the secret path's. This game is very different from other platformers because your invincible! That's right, nothing can kill you. Whether you're on fire, frozen, or turned into a zombie, you can't die.

The plot of Wario Land 2 is Captain Syrup has stolen all of Wario's treasure, ( while Wario is asleep ) he wakes up to discover all of his treasure is gone and his castle is flooded because the sink was left on ( what can you expect, its Wario ). Now its his job to retrieve his treasure!

The gameplay is solid. EVERYTHING in Wario Land is a puzzle. It can take a long time to get all of the treasure's, then again I didn't have a strategy guide when I had this game so it took me quite a long time to get all of the treasure and picture panel's. Though you're invincible, this game can still be hard. Well not necessarily hard, but rather annoying like the dog who won't shut up down your street. For example, there is a enemy in a window who will keep throwing an endless supply of empty beer bottles at you, so you could be all the way up a building, then you get hit by the beer bottles and you go ALL the way down the building. Things can get very annoying in this game, but that's expected in video game's, annoyance.

All in all, Wario Land 2 is a MUST HAVE for any gamer. Its a golden piece of plastic awesomeness!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another Nintendo classic :-), December 8, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Warioland II (Game Cartridge)
Wario Land II is where the series really came into its own. The original's gameplay was a hugely modified from Super Mario Land 2 to replace Mario's block-hitting and Goomba-stomping with enemy bashing, Ground Pounding, and crazy powers that help improve your regular bashing attack. This game may not have those power-ups, nor does it have any evidence of Mario Land 2, but it surely took all of the great original elements of the first Wario Land and made it 5 times better.

The graphics look amazing on the old-school Game Boy, and the sound effects/music are just as spot-on. You would think that by then, since the Nintendo 64 and Playstation systems were out (Oh, and Saturn), the monochrome graphics and sounds would be weak by the years' standards, but nope (And the Game Boy Color version has....color!).

One unique aspect about Wario Land 2 is that you can't lose/gain lives, so it wouldn't be a frustrating experience for new players. However, there's no need to worry about the difficulty, as the challenge is still there, and going strong enough to be fair for everyone.

The level designs have a very interesting variety of platforms and enemies, as well as some neat decorations. The game never seems to grow pretty boring at all. And along with all of the bashing, throwing, pouncing, etc you could do, there are also a few puzzle elements thrown in certain levels /:-)

Overall, this is an amazing Game Boy experience, and like all the Nintendo greats out there, it remains timeless to this day.

I bought this game because it reminded me of my childhood. I already had Super Mario Land II where Wario showed up for the first time, but actually playing as him this game is a classic.
