What are all these BOGUS reviews about?,
This review is from: Warlords Battlecry (CD-ROM)
he game is a finely crafted RTS (strategy IS in it) game.Let's address some of the odd issues brought up: The Hero is like the SHAMEN in populous? The lineage of warlords goes back about as far as populuous and is of an entirely different tradition. I don't see this... this game is derivitive of it's own history and the concept of RTS as a whole. Archers do PIERCING damage so attacking buildings unless you've upgraded them to flaming arrows is an exercise in misused resources. The game is amazingly well-balanced between the races and they are all very different from each other (not as much as starcraft but they only three and a PITIFUL AI). Each race demands a unique strategy and your hero (which you've developed over MANY MAY GAMES) is TRULY unique to your tastes- Druid, Paladin, Archmage, Thief, Bard, Necromancer, Pyromancer, Alchemist- and your race: Wood Elf, High Elf, Human, Orc, Undead, Barbarian, Dwarf- it ALL plays into the game! You can develop up to a level 50 character and spend the points to develop her/him the way you want. There is a scenario editor and random maps AND two campaigns (both dark and good). Replayability is ar a maximum here. Positives: Incredible non-cheating AI Replayability Customization Depth of strategy Negatives: Graphics are nothing special, but they do not work against gameplay AI is dead right now in island maps (but this is going to be fixed) A few minor imbalance problems currently being addressed by a patch,

The best RTS game I've encountered,
By
This review is from: Warlords Battlecry (CD-ROM)
I previously reviewed the demo. I've now completed both the good and evil campaign in the full version - I've never experienced a game so compelling after I've finished every scenario - it's actually HARD (and I'm quite a good RTS gamer). The core of this game is the "Hero", which sets it apart from other RTS games - the spells available to heroes are awesome in their complexity and manifestations. The 8 character races and many other factors allow the gamer to develop different strategies for almost every scenario possible, which makes gives Warlords greater "replayability" than any other RTS game. The music is a trifle boring after a while, the sound effects are great, however. When characters score a critical hit, they shout taunts and jibes at the enemy. If I was only to own one game, Warlords would be it.

Solid and engrossing RTS fantasy themed game,
By David A Wagar (Tucson, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Warlords Battlecry (CD-ROM)
I purchased Warlords Battlecry based on the numerous positive reviews of the game. Ordinarily, RTS games seem repetitive and silly, in that the player with the most guys wins. Along with Age of Kings, Warlords Battlecry is an excellent example of a real-time STRATEGY game. You can't win just by creating the most troops and overwhelming the enemy, and that's against the AI!The best features of the game are the ability to 'grow' a hero, taking him from battle to battle and increasing his skills, and how top-notch troops from one battle can be carried over to subsequent battles. They too gain experience levels as they progress through battles. Having 9 distinct races to play adds to the variety of strategies to employ. The differences in races also add to the variety in the heros you create based on race, profession, and specialties. You can enter battle with a Human Paladin or an Undead Necromancer, and your approach will be appreciably different. Some may find this game too difficult, the scenario included is not a cakewalk to finish and, unfortunately, can only be attempted by a Human hero. There are no strong negatives to this game. If you've never cared much for RTS games, Warlords Battlecry may be the one for you to try.

I'm a fan of Fantasy, Role-Playing, Strategy games & awesome software... Like WarCraft... And I love this game. Apart from a few technical glitches in the demo (which I'mm sure will be smoothed over in the live version), the sound & graphics of the game is brilliant. I enjoy complexity, and most importantly, a challenging game. Unlike many other strategy games, this game is a challenge, meaning that I didn't master it in a matter of hours (the demo, that is). furthermore, the "Hero" (Me) develops over time, so one can't simply finish a set of scenarios and "finish the game".

This is a fun, unique RTS game,

I began playing RTS (real-time strategy) games about a year ago, with Starcraft. Since then, it has become a favorite activity. Warlords Battlecry is something different in the way of RTS games. You have a hero that controls your troops. This ads a personal element to the multiplayer games that other RTS games lack. Being a woman, I'm a big fan of "pretty" and I have to say that while Starcraft is fun, the game is ugly. The creature are ugly. This is not the case with Battlecry. The game itself is gorgeous and all the units have definite personality. I highly recommend it.

Warlords is an awesome game in almost all respects. The units are varied and extremely interesting. Unlike AOE, where you can't really say a unit is 'cool', you certainly can in Warlords. Even the different attack methods are astounding. Liches hurl fireballs, dwarf lords smash towers to pieces with poleaxes, trolls toss boulders (and sheep when they can find them), minotaur kings dice enemies into sausage meat with their axes. The hero aspect is very interesting and unique. There are a ton of different combinations of characters you can make, and as you play, you will find yourself developing stories about your hero. The campaigns are challenging, but the missions are somewhat stale (kill all the minotaurs, kill all the orcs, kill all the undead.)Still, they're fun and can entertain you for a long while. My only gripe is about the mission editor. You can't paint terrain, making creating paths and rivers an ardous process. All in all, a great and at times humorous game that I strongly recomend.

The Best Warcraft-type game,

This is a great game because of a few things. First, your continuing "hero" gives the game its nice own spin. Secondly, it is easy to learn how to play, but still leaves much room for challenges even as you improve your skills. An overall addicting and quality game.

This game bridges the gap between the old 2D turn based strategy games to the 3D real time games that are popular now. While it is not quite in the league of Warcraft, it is a fun game, and certainly worth picking up. You can get Battelcry 1,2 and 3 for under 30 bucks. That is a lot of playing for a great price.

This is a good game for anyone who enjoys games like Dungeons & Dragons or Warcraft etc... The music is good and the campaign is interesting. Although it is linear you can choose between the good path and the evil one and it is surprisingly challenging, even on easy mode! I was a little bummed at first that you can only be human for the campaign, but even that wasn't bad because humans can be any profession and any specialty.
