This single cd is a compilation of three 12" vinyl LP records and one 7" EP from the years 1958 to 1961. The songs average between about 1:30 and 2:30 minutes long, which explains how they were able to get 39 tracks on one disc. There are only a few instrumentals with no singing- otherwise all other cuts are sung in portuguese by Joao while playing his guitar, many with the moody and evocative orchestral arrangements of Antonio Carlos Jobim swirling underneath the compositions. I listen to this cd a section at a time- to listen to the entire thing in one sitting would be a little too monotonous for me. This cd is one of the "Bossa Nova Groove" offerings by Ubatuqui Records (Blue Moon S.L.)- others include the Sambalanco Trio, Lalo Schifrin, Oscar Castro-Neves, Zoot Sims, and Bud Shank. 24 bit digitally remastered, made in Spain.

If you like Joao Gilberto, quick get this one while it is available. Alkl the tract are super good, and it contains his 3 first CD, begining of the Bossa Nova, very accoustic, and relaxing. Great for background music for an exotic suppper. Only the very best. A must for any Bossa Nova lovers...
