A Fine Field Guide and Reference,
This review is from: Warman's Antique Jewelry Field Guide (Paperback)
This is a fine little book and excellent value for the price. The text is readable and informative, and there are ample illustrations, albeit in black and white. The section on hallmarks alone should save the collector some expensive missteps.
This book contains a brief jewelry history form 1840 forward that is more accessible and useful than the more extensive coverage in other, historically focused books. Includes illustrations and pricing (as of publication date, of course) for an astonishing range of antique and contemporary jewelry. A worthy reference for the collector and a book of interest to the jewelry maker or designer. If only the photos were in color, but that is perhaps too much to ask of a book in this price range and of this compact size. The size does make it something that you can easily slip into your bag for visits to the auction houses and antiques dealers.

Warmans Antique Jewelry,

This review is from: Warman's Antique Jewelry Field Guide (Paperback)
This is a good book FOR someone who knows what the heck they are talking about! The drawn pictures are way too simple to understand on the mechanisms and the rest of the photos are nearly all in black and white which don't help one bit. Waste of my money, wish I had purchased a book with all color photos and actual pictures of the mechanisms. The dating section is once again.....too simplified to really "Date" a piece.
