Book Description

July 1996 Warman's Country Antiques & Collectibles
Collectors are getting back to their country roots to collect the items that their grandparents and great-grandparents used daily. This book features listings, photos and current values on country stoneware, kitchen items, folk art, furniture, glass, lighting, textiles, wood, and metal items.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Fifty years ago, mention of early American country antiques usually brought to mind visions of spinning wheels, cobbler's benches, and interiors typical of early New England. Tastes have changed, and collectors' interests have broadened to include items found in all regions of the country. Folk arts, farm implements, tools, kitchen equipment, and Shaker ware that might have been made in the 19th century or even in the early 20th century are now collected eagerly. Editor Rinker and the various Warman's price guides have long been recognized for accurately tracking public interest in antique market trends, and this book reflects a major area of current interest. It is divided into such broad categories as "Furniture" and "Lighting," with information on the history of each craft, a bibliography, notice of collectors' clubs and museum collections of similar items, names of manufacturers of reproductions, and prices (based largely on auctions, price-guide publications, and information from dealers). In addition, the book lists pertinent flea markets and antique shows. Highly recommended for public and art libraries.
