Book Description

August 2004
Demanding high price tags, the superior work of the fine French artisan Rene Lalique is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but highly collectible--synonymous with fine luxurious art glass worldwide. From the strikingly bold and original Art Nouveau and art deco styles of Rene Lalique, and those of Cristallerie Lalique after his death, this full-color guide presents the refined figurines, vases, and lamps as well as the clocks, ashtrays, and tableware and boudoir accessories of a continuing legacy. Complete with a biography of Rene Lalique, and an overview of his work, this book is the essential guide to Lalique glass for high-end collectors, antique dealers, and glass enthusiasts. Antiques dealer and author, Mark F. Moran has compiled large clear photographs of exquisite pieces and essential accurate up-to-date prices and presents them here in full-color.

More About the Author

I am the former senior editor for antiques and collectibles books with Krause Publications in Iola, Wis. I conduct community events that involve appraisal of antiques, collectibles and decorative arts in the upper Midwest.

Since launching my Antique Appraisal Events in the summer of 2011, the response has been very gratifying. Libraries and historical societies from around the Midwest have embraced the concept and scheduled events, and institutions in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Upper Michigan have also expressed interest.

I have been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine. I also served as editor of Antique Review East magazine; as producer of Atlantique City, an antique show held twice a year at the Atlantic City, N.J., Convention Center; and as editorial director of F+W Publications' Antiques Group.

I am the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, including the 800-page annual Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide 2012, the 45th edition.

The 45th edition of Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide is better than ever, and brings a fresh, 21st-century perspective to the collecting world.

The list of auction houses features more than 70 businesses from coast to coast, covering hundreds of collecting categories. The number of consulting experts in various fields has also grown, and I've included new sections on both established and emerging collecting areas.

An important returning feature is a focus on the "Future of the Markets," advising collectors on where the experts are putting their money and why.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty, but not useful, January 22, 2008
This review is from: Warman's. Lalique (Paperback)
I bought this book to help me price things for online purchases and estate sales. It's a pretty book. The pictures are fantastic. The organization is also good. Items are listed alphabetically by category, such as ash trays, bowls, figurines, vases. Within each category items are listed alphabetically by pattern name. This makes it pretty easy to find items. Prices are under each picture, as well as which company signature is used, which is convenient and useful for authentication. Some pictures show several items and occassionally it isn't clear whether the price is per item or for the entire photo. Unfortunately, the book just doesn't cover enough items to be useful. Most of what I try to look up is not in the book. It's a well organized book that needs to be four times bigger! So if you want a nice paperback coffee table book, this is it. If you're looking for one to help you with purchases, find something else more comprehensive.

I have the old catalog with the price list from the early 20th century. But this book is a gold standard Lalique guide. As everyone knows in the field, the references number and name are important in selling these pieces. But you need to know what you have before you sell or buy it. I like to know the complete infromation about a piece and this gives it to me. In buildinga a good references library add this bood to your shelf.
