Another winner from Kallmaker,

Kallmaker's latest book is another great read.
Ani is an Alaskan, a budding glacial geologist, who has relocated to Key West due to her self-imposed exile. Yes, of course, she is running away! What is good lesbian fiction if a character isn't running away from something or someone? And yes, Ani left too many things unresolved when she fled Alaska three years previously. This leaves the door open for her to return to Alaska to tie up those loose ends, especially the ones involving Eve. And those ends are tied up very neatly, in Kallmaker fashion. Populated with a wonderful cast of supporting characters (Lisa, Tonk, and Tan), this novel is the latest in the line of wonderful Kallmaker books. Well worth your time, so dive in. Who would've thought that glacial geology was so fascinating??

Great character study,
By lenkalotte (Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Warming Trend (Paperback)
I must say, I enjoyed. It had a mystery plot in addition to the usual romance, and even the romance element could have gone in different directions at some point, I was pleasantly surprised by not being bored witht he same old formula.
But what makes this novel stand out is the setting (mainly Alaska but some Key West as well, the contrast works very well) and the main character, Ani, a geologist specializing in ice. Kallmaker writes about Ani's passion for ice in any shape or form so believable that you feel the cold chills while lying on the beach in warm weather, or at least I did. Kallmaker really gets into the heads of Ani and her love interest in a way that is deeper and closer to the lines of a character study than romances usually offer. I was well entertained and will pick it up again for the fascinating and well written ice-talk.

Alaska on my mind,
By QuickStudi "Addicted to Print" (Too far from home) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Warming Trend (Paperback)
Again, Karin Kallmaker pleases. But this time, the true romance of the book is with the reader and Alaska. I'm saving my pennies because, thanks to this book, and Ani Bycall's passion for her home country, I have Alaska on my mind. Thanks, Karin, for taking me someplace I have never been and for supplying a few new, good friends in Ani, Eve and Tan to hang with on the journey. Get ready, Tonk, Hobie's on his way! I'll read this one again, just to go back for Cheeseburger, Fries and a Coke.

Lighthearted Mystery,
By
This review is from: Warming Trend (Paperback)
Many people consider Karin Kallmaker the queen of lesbian fiction. Who am I to disagree (except I can't pick my favorite from my top five authors in the genre)? I usually like what she delivers and will probably always pick up her new releases. `Warming Trend' certainly didn't disappoint.
Here she brings us the redemption of Anidyr Bycall. Ani tried to protect her research professor after a tragedy while studying glaciers in Alaska. Although she did nothing wrong, her whole life was dismantled. Her professor turned her back, her girlfriend (Eve) was flabbergasted, her reputation was ruined. So, Ani moved as far away as she could. Three years later, Ani is persuaded by her new friend XXX to go back to Alaska to face her demons. Reluctantly, they both make the long trip. Along with Eve and Tan, the campus security officer, they set the record straight. As it happens, more than one relationship is kindled between these four women. The whole book is lighthearted, even as Ani grieves the loss of her previous life and reclaims the present with the help of XXXX. This is a great character that I'd like to see in a pseudo sequel. Bottom Line - Enjoyable from front cover to back; Kallmaker's latest is a great weekend read.

I either love Karin's books or hate them, this one I loved. I rate it 4.3 starts. I wish all of her
books could be this well written, this deep with the characters, please keep them coming like this, with your other books, I feel like I am left short, that you just cranked it out!

Unexpected Bonus!!,
By
This review is from: Warming Trend (Paperback)
I totally expected a fabulous romance. What a nice bonus that one heck of a mystery (with an antagonist of the "boo-hiss" variety) was thrown in as the catalyst for the story and also kept the reader flipping pages long into the next day because you just had to know what happened.
The story delightfully starts out in an 'ice bar' in Key West. The author must vacation in Key West regularly because the atmosphere is spot on. 29 year old Ani has been living day to day for the last three years. Her love and career, her dreams, shattered. Three years ago she left her life and her passions in Alaska. She also left her new lover Eve. Now thirty-five years old, Eve has built her career to where she wants it from caterer to restaurant owner and chef. Eve owns the hot new restaurant in town. Both women continue to flash back to the magic they shared, are still in disbelief that it ended so suddenly and are starting to question why. Let me say that in addition to the lovers Ani & Eve a TOTAL Bonus is the introduction of the very original character Lisa who deserves her own TV show she was so captivating. If you liked this novel you will will love the author's other novels - Touchwood One Degree of Separation Maybe Next Time Frosting on the Cake (Short stories)
