This rack is an excellent towel dryer. While it does use heat to evaporate the moisture, the basic design doesn't warm towels well unless several layers are used. As an open-air rack, all of the heat eventually enters the surrounding environment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good towel dryer, but not warmer
I read the reviews and knew going in that this was a good towel dryer and not necessarily the best warmer, but that's what I wanted--a towel dryer. I have no vent in my bathroom and just needed to get the towels and air dry to prevent mold, cut down and laundry etc. so I thought I didn't care. However, now experiencing the tiny warm spot where the towel has touched the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Towel DRYER, September 11, 2005
This review is from: Warmrails Heatra Traditional Towel Warmer and Drying Rack, Chrome (Kitchen)
This rack is an excellent towel dryer. While it does use heat to evaporate the moisture, the basic design doesn't warm towels well unless several layers are used. As an open-air rack, all of the heat eventually enters the surrounding environment.

In order to actually warm towels, heat must be captured by multiple insulating layers, allowing thermal energy to build up over a period of a couple of hours. Somewhat oddly, this arrangement dries the inner towels faster than a single standalone towel- even though there is less exposure to the dry atmosphere.

Having warm towels is a nice luxury in the cold winter yet the real benefit comes in the summer when humidity is a problem. Some may question the cost-benefit as heaters are generally reserved for colder months. Indeed, this towel warmer will battle your air conditioning slightly. However, at 100 watts, it only produces about as much waste heat as a 100 watt incandescent light bulb.

If you generate a great number of wet towels or live in humid climate, a towel warmer is a nice way to keep your towels dry. In my case, I exercise and shower multiple times per day. Having a towel warmer has cut down significantly on my consumption of fresh towels. Moreover, the towels I use appear fresh and clean much longer, which arguably decreases my total energy consumption by reducing dryer usage.

My only complaint with this towel warmer is its lack of heating control or rapid heating. It would helpful to maintain a constant temperature regardless of how wet or dense the towels are. This would require more sophisticated electronics and large current spikes. However, even in its current form, the device is quite useful. If you live in a humid climate or use a large number of towels, you too can reduce your trips to the Laundromat.

Pros:
Simple design
Warm towels
Reduced towel usage

Cons:
No thermostat
No intelligent thermal control (rapid initial heating with taper)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good towel dryer, but not warmer, March 1, 2006
I read the reviews and knew going in that this was a good towel dryer and not necessarily the best warmer, but that's what I wanted--a towel dryer. I have no vent in my bathroom and just needed to get the towels and air dry to prevent mold, cut down and laundry etc. so I thought I didn't care. However, now experiencing the tiny warm spot where the towel has touched the bar, makes me wish I would have gone for the more robust version that actually warms the towels. That warm part is soooo nice, but too small. I have to say though, that it's great for getting the towels dry quickly!

I also went with this version because it fit in the small space I had on the floor. With long towels though, it's better to put it on the wall and in that case I could have gone with a bigger model that perhaps would have warmed better. So basically, don't limit yourself on size if you think you want it on the floor. You'll probably mount it on the wall in the end anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm Fresh Towels, June 11, 2004
I think it is actually 250 watts, which is more than your average non-halogen lightbulb. Because of that, I put it on a timer. I love it. More importantly than warming a towel up for use, is the way it dries it out after use. This keeps your towels fresh. During the summer, I would have to change towels almost daily w/o this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works fine, but watch out for the bare metal sides, November 5, 2006
Thsi towel warmer does a good job of keeping towels warm, and drying clothes. Also, the price was good and the quality of the warmer is good. It seems sturdy and hopefully will last awhile. But the side rails are quite hot if you touch them and cause a mild burn to delicate skin such as on small children. Since you hang items on the horizontal rails it would have been nice if they put a protective covering on the 2 vertical rails to prevent the mild burns. They are on the outside of the warmer so are very easy to accidentally touch.

3.0 out of 5 stars Drying Rack is a better name for it., November 5, 2004
It is better to market it as a drying rack rather than a towel warmer. I am not at all impressed with its towel warming performance. Very mediocre performance. I had seen towel warmers in European homes and that is where I learnt about them first time and had been looking for them here. They were real towel warmers and the whole towel would be real warm. This one is a joke for a towel warmer. May be as a clothes dryer it will do a better job!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Towel Warmer, and more, March 4, 2006

This towel rack actually gets very warm - enough to heat up clothes, and dry any wet fabric. We have it on a timer to have warm bathrobes in the morning!

It's not something I could not live without, but this product is great for making chilly mornings more bearable before leaving for work. Towels are nice and warm out of the shower or tub (at least, on one side), and my only complaint is that it could stand to be warmer than it is, but with little kids in the house, it's hot enough for us without being dangerous. Best part is that the towels DRY faster and don't sit a whole day damp; I really hate any faint reek of mildew, and this product definitely gets rid of that problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warmrails Towel Warmer, August 18, 2006

We wanted a new towel heater and the price at Amazon was the best found. The towel heater was shipped promptly with no charge for shipping. It was in perfect condition. The brass color was perfect for our bathroom decor. It works as advertised and better than the one it replaced. Color us happy :>) with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warmrails Heatra Traditional Towel Warmer and Drying Rack,Brass, May 8, 2007

This product does exactly what is supposed to do, dry your towels and keep them nice and warm for you when you need them. They are not "dryer" warm, but are warm enough to take the chill off of you after you shower. The unit takes up very little space on the bathroom floor, about 6 inches from the wall(you can also mount it on the wall if you like, hardware included)and it simply plugs into an outlet on the wall. We leave it on all the time and it keeps the towels dry and always smelling fresh. I highly recommend this for something inexpensive but a really nice extravagant touch for the bathroom.
