If you haven't read my review for W Hotels Wanderlust ... I will mention that I am no expert of lounge/ambient/chill music. I like the W Hotels CDs because a lot of the time, like the sexy loungy music you hear creating a Vibe in the lobby or lounges of the W Hotels ... I enjoy setting a mood while entertaining, relaxing or err ... making out. The W Hotels CDs are usually great for two things more than others: 1.) Driving 2.) Making out to. They usually contain a collection of ecclectic and hard to find songs that groove well from one to the next giving you something not so chill that it makes you tired but not too upbeat that you want to dance. It is perfect music to slide next to someone on the couch with.
This isn't the first W Hotels Disc to start off with a Goldfrap song with Oooh La La. This is a song that will get you excited ... something you'd hear on a fashion runway. Uptempo and light. It is hard to imagine what would come next after a song like that, but they hit the nail on the head with 'As the Rush Comes' (which was used in Abercrombie & Fitch stores a few years ago). This song is a techno-y echo laden song that will really get you lost in the moment. "Have You Got it In You' is a very light and almost depressing sounding song, but a perfect one to follow the previous two with. It sounds exotic with harp music and dreamy vocalist. Emotion 98.6 is an uber romantic and light song which makes you feel like you are floating in a dream. Another perfect transition from the previous songs. 'Final Home' is another slow jam with a jazzy feel and a loungy vibe. Its just kind of there ... doesn't knock you out but has a very sexy and playful vibe. 'Mango' is a slightly tropical and exotic loungy song.
'Tres Tres Chic' isn't my favorite song on the disc. It sort of annoys me and pretty much kills the soft and romantic flow of the CD and brings it into another direction. It is kind of like a retro Euro vibe that just doesn't work. 'The Look of Love' reminds me of something you'd hear while shopping at Armani Exchange. It has a hard charging beat but a very light and romantic lead vocal. It does its best to make you forget about 'Tres Tres Chic' and put you back into the zone. 'Danger of Love' is the sexiest song on the CD with a sensual, relaxing and soothing feel. 'Umbrellas in the Rain' is another very sexy, sultry song that you will get lost in. 'Beautiful Things' might be one of my favorite tracks as it has that echoey techno vibe with a great beat. They played this one at Abercrombie as well. 'Walk Into the Sun' is my favorite track on the disc. It brings you right back up from the soft and sensual vibe of the second part of the disc and leaves you on a high note.
This CD sounds best if you have a system with some good bass. I played it on my laptop and figured it to be kind of so-so. Then I put it in a system with some bass and completely got lost in it. Its romantic, soothing and cool. Even if you aren't using it while cuddled up next to someone, its great vibe music to unwind to. This is so far my favorite W Hotels CD. I have its counterpart, Overture on the way and hope it measures up.
