Brian Wilson worshippers,

This is a great CD with many artists that have worshiped and followed in the big footsteps of the great Brian Wilson, most with a positive statement. A diverse CD but with more positives than almost all empty music being released today.

Warmth of the Sun is a good compilation of summer songs inspired by the Beach Boys and others. There are a few unknowns included, but this CD is essential to any summer collection. It is still secondary to 25 All Time Greatest Summer Songs on the Varese Sarabande label (available from Amazon.com) which has a greater variety of original summer hits done by the original artists.

If you're a fan of the Beach Boys sound, or a fan of summer songs in general, you should enjoy this disc. There are many tracks on here that I didn't know existed. Girl On The Beach is an outstanding song. There are interesting liner notes for each track included.

As a Beach Boy and Brian Wilson fan I myself recorded on tape
many songs that could have been theirs and the incredible fact is that none of the songs presented on this CD belong to that personal collection. This means I now have two song compilations inspired by the Beach Boys! Besides the well known songs like G.T.O, Sunshine Music, New York's a Lonely Town, there are some "real" knockouts I hadn't heard before being by far the best: "There's No Surf In Cleveland" by the Euclid Beach Band and "Rendezvous" by the Hudson Brothers. For all the Beach Boys fans and collectors I recommend some other typical "Beach Boys" songs: - Sunrise by Eric Carmen - Rock & Roll Lullabye by B.J. Thomas - Look Who's Laughing by Bruce & Terry - She's My Style by Gary Lewis & Playmates - She Rides With Me by Cameron Michael Parkes - That's The Way I Feel by Gary Usher Add to that groups like Fantastic Baggys, Rip Chords, Super Stocks, Sunrays etc. Of course we also have Jan & Dean but they deserve their own seperate recording history even though the Californian summer sound from the early and mid 60's all were alike. |
