5.0 out of 5 stars Saigon- Warning Shots
Saigon's "Warning Shots" (2004) is a release I highly recommend checking out. For the last couple of years New York's Saigon has been tearing it up on mixtape scene and will be making his major debut soon. For now he has delivered the goods with a collection of his best work. "Favorite Things" gets things started. First real standout and my personal favourite is "Let A...

5.0 out of 5 stars Saigon- Warning Shots, June 19, 2004

Saigon's "Warning Shots" (2004) is a release I highly recommend checking out. For the last couple of years New York's Saigon has been tearing it up on mixtape scene and will be making his major debut soon. For now he has delivered the goods with a collection of his best work. "Favorite Things" gets things started. First real standout and my personal favourite is "Let A Nigga Know", a hungry sounding Saigon rips up a sick beat with some raw lyrics. This is followed up by another excellent track, the banging piano laced "Come Again". Saigon continues to impress dropping more grimey and memorable premium tracks with "Stocking Cap" and "NY Streetz". Saigon takes a minute to talk about "L.O.V.E." a track about the ladies. Laidback "Huh Mama" has Sai asking women if they will be down for there men when there down and out and in jail. Mekka Millz and the still slept on Ali Vegas drop in for another banger called "We Want In". Saigon goes political on the powerful "Kiss the Babies" a track about war, poverty, drugs, and corrupt government. Sai then gets innovative on the unique "Pop Quiz (Multiple Choice)". "Yes" is another ill track, love that Alchemist beat. "If (My Mommy)" goes real deep this a track dedicated to his mom, where Sai talks about growing up, struggle, jail, the ups and downs of life and love. Saigon then closes things off strong with some well chosen freestyles. Of all the up and coming MC's I have to say Sai has impressed me the most. Saigon excels at delivering reality rap with "Warning Shots", this ones for the collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saigon Is The Truth!, October 2, 2004

Ever since 50 Cent blew up off the mixtape buzz he created based off the independently-released "Guess Who's Back", many of NY's hottest up and coming rappers have decided to follow suit. Perhaps the most prolific artist to show up on the scene since 50 went the mainstream route is Saigon. Anyone questioning the kid's credentials should need just take one listen of "Warning Shots", an amazing collection of his hottest mixtape recordings.

Saigon takes a no-nonsense approach with "Warning Shots" as he hits us with a nice mixture of street corner anthems, political messages, and hot freesyles. On his most heartfelt track on the album, Sai takes some time out to dedicate a track to his mother on "If... (My Mommy)" and it makes for one of the deepest dedications since Pac's "Dear Mama". Saigon challenges unnamed studio thugs to a Q&A on "Pop Quiz" and comments on the current political epidemic on "Kiss The Babies". There's more than just that too. You've got tracks like "Yes", "Stocking Cap", and "N.Y. Streetz". All of which are certified bangers.

Sai seems to be the lyrical equivalent of the WWE's Brock Lesnar as he shows why he should be deemed hip-hop's "Next Best Thing". Featuring some of his finest work on the mixtape circut, "Warning Shots" should help jumpstart a nice buzz for Saigon. If this is any indication of what Saigon's official debut, "Greatest Story Never Told" will be like, we may very well have a classic on our hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the most provocative mix-tapes, August 9, 2005
This review is from: Warning Shots (Audio CD)
Siagon is the next God of hip-hop. Im from the A town and new york mixtapes rarely get heard down south. This mix tape is so good that it leaked down south and is buzzing. Siagon's vivid depictions and profuse vocabulary mixes with his vernacular to produce rythmic poetry on a beat. It is magic because he does not glorify or exploite killing, materialism, and mosagony. But yet he still maintains his street credability. If you want to know what the future of hip hop sounds like, then buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let a nigga know, March 31, 2005
This review is from: Warning Shots (Audio CD)
I gotta let a nigga know that Saigon Is the HOTTEST Up n Comer right now. I Downloaded "NY Streetz" and "Shok TV" 2 months ago and played them on heavy rotation. Finally I just got the CD.

GODDAMN this CD is the tightest CD you will own by an up and comer in the game right now. He reminds me a lot of 50 when he was comin up.

Hot Tracks include "let a nigga know" and "NY Streets" as well as the WhooKid Freestyle. Crazy CD, I find it wierd that he keeps shouting "Grestest Story Never Told" but the CD is called "Warning Shots" If he is comin out with this other CD I can't Wait. I will buy it when it drops.

Also look out for the song "DIRTY BIZ ft. my man KOOL G RAP"

Pick this up, you wont be dissapointed

4.0 out of 5 stars Saigon Is Talented, March 10, 2009
This review is from: Warning Shots (Audio CD)
This cd is a good listen. It sounds like an album. There is a good variety of subject matter on Warning Shots. I like the "Favorite Thingz". This artist made a good cd but its only a mixtape, which should have been an album.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Mixtape From Saigon (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars), September 14, 2007

One of my friends passed me this CD back in '05 at my job. Saigon was an artist that I didn't know too much about, except on a few guest appearances on other albums, such as Mark Ronson's Here Comes the Fuzz. One of the songs that received the most spins was "Stocking Cap" with Saigon's gritty lyrics. "Let A ***** Know" and "Come Again" are songs that really show off his style in rhyming. Later on he shines on the female friendly track "L.O.V.E" that is excellent. "Pop Quiz (Mulitple Choice)" is great as Saigon gives a quiz on different scanarios and what would happen. The following track "Yes" is another standout cut that I would say is one of my favorites, as to say he could have blown up if this was an actual album and that was the lead single. "If...(My Mommy)" is very deep as a dedication to his mother for being with him. The last four tracks are freestyles to close out this album. Two of them that stood out to me were "Drama Hour (freestyle)" with Kay Slay, as well as "Shok TV". Some of the cuts here on the mixtape fail to make an impression such as "Favorite Thingz" and "N.Y. Streetz". Also some of the tracks date back to 2000 (ie "Yes" and "Pop Quiz") which really isn't a problem to me, but might be to some people. Overall, Warning Shots is a mixtape I recommend checking out, especially now that it is out of print, I recommend you get this now before the price goes up. I for one am anticipating for his album to drop soon. Peace!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Underground MC, September 16, 2006
This review is from: Warning Shots (Audio CD)
I've been listening to Sai-giddy since he pressed the contraband record on RAWKUS. He has been in this rap game for a while now but as you know he's been servin time and droppin the illest mixtapes in the meantime. This mixtape is a good mix of what you can expect from him. I do have to agree with an earlier reviewer in sayin that his BEST MIXTAPES are the first 2 or 3 he made in-between gettin locked up. He made those with Kayslay and trust me there is no filler what so-ever on those. All in all this should leave you wantin some more so go do some homework!!! PEACE
