This review is from: Warpia Wireless USB Easy Dock PC to TV laptop docking station for Mac and PC (Personal Computers)
I have used a Mac for several years and one thing that I missed from my PC days was the ability to have a really good docking station for my desktop peripherals. I saw the Warpia Easy Dock on Amazon a month or so ago and waited for it to get in stock. I received it a week ago and have been really pleased with it. I tested the range of it the other day and I can put my Mac over on the table about 10 feet away (the farthest point in my office) from my desktop set up and it worked just fine. That was just a test as I am using it with a 19" Samsung display as my primary monitor and my Mac as my second display which is great.
I was pleased with Amazon's quick shipment and I am very happy with this product. Thanks

I have a laptop that I take home from work everyday and was plugging a monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse into it when at home. Product caught my interest as a way not to have to plug in all those cables every day. Best thing about it is works just fine with multiple laptops. All my wife had to do is load the drivers into her MacBook and now we have a docking station that works on both my Dell and her Apple. Just take the USB Adapter out of one laptop and plug it into the other.
You can even use it in dual monitor mode by leaving your laptop LCD screen open if you so choose. Kind of nice having a two monitor setup - more screen space. Now I just have to convince my boss to expense one for the office :)

Nice Docking Station
Arrived very quickly from Amazon and the set up was very easy. I didn't use the disk that was included rather, I went to their website to ensure that I had the latest drivers. Nice to see that the drivers were easily identifiable on the downloads page. I am running a Toshiba Tecra A11 Laptop with an Intel Core i3 CPU and Windows 7 Professional and it is working well. I use the laptop screen as my second screen so it is relatively close to the base adapter but I tested the range and it works across my office. I am planning to get one for my daughter who is returning to college in a week. I am sure that this will be a great set up for her dorm room and the set up was easy enough that I won't be roped into being her tech support. One thing to mention is that the USB adapter gets a little warm after I have been using it for several hours but when I unplug it, it cools down rather quickly. Not concerned but thought I would mention it.

The Warpia Easy Dock has been easy to use, and compatible with our equipment (laptop PC, and Vizio HD TV). The installation process on Windows XP was painless, and the settings on the application are easy to reconfigure. The first time I used this wireless adapter, the signal dropped when we accidentally blocked the trajectory. However, this problem did not recur, as soon as we rebooted and tweaked the resolution settings so that the HDTV would mirror the laptop screen as long as we had our monitor display properties set to 1024x768 pixels (recommended for us), the device has picked up the signal permanently, we were unable to interfere with its successful use in several months since. After getting the drivers set up the first time which only takes a few minutes, the device should work with 100% ease.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: The Warpia Easy Dock worked a few times with my new 2010 Macbook Pro and then stopped working. The Mac crashes and will not reboot until the USB transmitter is removed. As someone else noted, this product does not even ship with Mac drivers even though the title and description says that it works with PC and Mac. I have also downloaded the latest drivers from the Warpia Website, but the device still does not work.
REVISED REVIEW (3/4/11): Release of newest driver for Mac OSX solved all functionality problems. Works great now!

Good product, worked great at first, but some times has some slow video playback. sound is good, usb works good, but video kinda jumps whether is from internet or a movie played in my pc to my display. If i had the chance would purchase some other product.

This product doesn't work. It makes one of my Macbook pros crash and the other just broadcasts lines on the screen.
It doesn't even ship with the necessary Mac drivers or instructions. What a disappointment.

I was trying to use this with a new, up to date laptop with W7 installed. Installed and set up fine, no glitches. The problem is that it drops the connection 3-4 x's per day without running any videos and 50% of the time if you try to run a video. Also, it would not reconnect on my system as it dropped the sending USB and its drivers most of the time, requiring a re-boot each time. As I was trying to use it a work, this just was not acceptable for me. When working it did work very well. YMMV.

I tried this with my Mac Pro laptop (Mac OS X 10.6.5) ... after a number of kernel panics, I got it
running somewhat. Although it worked, I didn't test sleep mode and I stopped using it for non-related reasons until last week. Now I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.7 ... after a number of kernel panics, I got it working again (be sure to download the current Mac driver from the warpia.com support page!). Again, it seemed to work ok (although the receiving end (oddly, a USB stick which can be confusing, since the Mac/PC end is also a PC stick) gets pretty hot). But ... when my Mac went to sleep, the Warpia display didn't. It left my external monitor active, showing the Mac desktop for hours. When I woke the Mac up, it acted like the Warpia didn't exist (i.e., no knowledge of the second display). I had to unplug/plugin the Warpia to get it to work again. It's clearly not ready for prime-time Mac use, unfortunately. |
