5.0 out of 5 stars Entertainment, not instruction
I'm baffled that anyone thinks this should provide any instructional value. It's pure ski entertainment and one of Warren's best. This is my favorite of all of Warren Miller's most recent films, including his latest, Impact. Warren's films stand apart from other ski films because of the narration by skiing's wise sage Warren Miller. At once humorous and soulful,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay JOURNEY IS BETTER
I bought this movie off of the reviews given. In truth, this was not that great of a warren miller film. The soundtracks weren't that great, and the filming and angle was just average. Journey is a great movie, and really can't be beat. Journey is my favorite ski movie ever, and It would be a much better buy than Storm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertainment, not instruction, October 7, 2005
This review is from: Warren Miller's Storm (DVD)
I'm baffled that anyone thinks this should provide any instructional value. It's pure ski entertainment and one of Warren's best. This is my favorite of all of Warren Miller's most recent films, including his latest, Impact. Warren's films stand apart from other ski films because of the narration by skiing's wise sage Warren Miller. At once humorous and soulful, Warren Miller captures the essence of the ski bum culture in his films. If you can only buy one Warren Miller ski film, buy this one, better yet, buy them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye Candy All Around! A+, September 26, 2004
This review is from: Warren Miller's Storm (DVD)
As a moderate skiier, and a filmmaker myself, this hits it home for me. Warren Miller films are always shown locally, and there's hardly anything imaginable that could make me miss his new movie every year.
Not being a Heavy Metal fan, historically the music tends to be distracting, alas this (past) year's edition "Storm" had just the right amount of pizazz and flare to make it my favorite yet. There are moments nearly every year that I take home with me, but Storm was filled with the most amazing skiing, some of the most unique locations, and might add the most exhilarating editing I've seen in quite a while! Kudos to you folks!
If you can appreciate the splendor of mountain island skiing that harldy anyone on earth has even seen, let alone skiied, then this DVD will certainly expediate your plans for skiing this coming season. You might not go to South Georgia Island, but there's plenty of skiing nearby...just roadtrip and split a cabin :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Amazing Snow Vid I Have Ever Seen!!!!!!!!!, September 27, 2003

This review is from: Storm [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I first saw this movie on a plane flight from sydney to Auckland. I was waiting for the schedualed hollywood krap movie to come on when it was announced that due to technical difficulties the planned movie would not be shown today and that instead they would be showing Warren Miller's Storm. i looked through the booklet and couldnt find a review on it and so i was sure it was goin to be crap and pulled out a snowboarding mag from my bag and began to read. After about 5 mins I looked up to see a skier jumping off a 25ft cliff into 2ft of powder, my jaw dropped and i was rivetted for the rest of the flight. It was a truly amazing video with great footage from all across the world, pleasing both skiers and boarders. buy it now!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing film, October 13, 2003

This review is from: Warren Miller's Storm (DVD)
Storm is one of my favorites of the Warren Miller series, with absolutely amazing skiing and boarding in incredible locations. (Alaska heliskiing and the South Georgia Island ones are my favorites) The scenes are beautifully shot and really take your breath away. I have to hand it to the Warren Miller team, in that it can't be easy to film these every year and still put out a film that has such an emotional impact for anyone who has been out in the mountains. As a Colorado native, watching this movie makes me want to pack up and head for the deep powder - a fantastic movie that will leave you with a serious travel/ski bug.

This film is another incredible feature from Warren Miller's studio. It will take you straight to the mountains in the most amazing snow conditions. This by far one of the best free ride movies I've seen.

I love agressive ski videos that just kick [...], and STORM just rips. No stupid bikini skiing or inner tube follies (that I can remember) just great skiing superbly shot with an awesome soundtrack. My neighbors can hear me when I play this. They think I have a screw loose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warren Miller's "Storm" -Awe-Inspiring and Humbling Montage of Skiing, Snowboarding, Extreme Sports and Interviews, May 29, 2008
This review is from: Warren Miller's Storm (DVD)

You can't help but feel humbled by the tricks these riders seem to nail with ease in Warren Miller's Storm. You will be really blown away if you have ever tried to ski or snowboard, and will still be amazed if you haven't. In some scenes just staying up is a feat considering the steep runs and vertical drops. And if you've ever worked a film crew or a camera, you have to be humbled by how difficult it is to capture shots like these. Even one of these tricks can require hours to set up, and here you have hundreds or thousands of runs and tricks strung between interviews, story-lines and amazing backdrops. The result is simply breath-taking.

Warren Miller's narration gives the transitions from place to place continuity and credibility. There can't be too many serious skiers and snowboarders who aren't already familiar with his signature voice and lasting legacy.

From Steamboat in Colorado, Whistler in BC, the Marines training facility in California, to the Alps of Europe, this footage takes you everywhere. We even get to retrace Shackelton's journey from the Faulklands to South Georgia just before Antarctica.

One thing applies to all these locations: don't try any of this. That includes at home or away from home. Even accomplished riders have to bow down before these 100 foot drops and vertical runs of hard-packed snow.

There's a mix of stuff here. From watching the Marine's train in ice water, to seeing snowboarders and skateboarders try to nail their tricks, this is not a pure skiing video. There's even cross country, hiking, and bike tricks thrown in. But no matter what you are watching, this is amazing to watch. The slow motion shots of snow shooting up on a landing, the shots with the sun fading into the background, this is just beautiful filming.

Not to beat a dead horse, but there is no instruction here. There's only one way to learn to ski, snowboard, or almost anything else. That's by doing it. Even if there was a way to learn by watching a DVD, you can be sure that DVD would be much longer than a few hours. :) And to repeat what I said before, chances are unless you are one of the people who was profiled here you won't be doing any of this in your lifetime. That' makes watching this all the more enjoyable.

The soundtrack is good, and definitely well mixed for the shots and transitions. But the beauty here is the eye-candy. Here we get to watch some of the world's best riders do things in open terrain that most of us can only dream of.

As for me, watching this has me wondering how long the season goes on in other parts of the world. Get this DVD or download the video if you love the beauty of excellent skiing and snowboarding.

Enjoy!

I cant believe anybody would ever watch this for instructional value, because thats not what its for. It is purely for entertainment purposes (which is exactly what this movie is). This movie has a kick butt soundtrack and awesome footage of sweet skiiers ripping up the slopes. This is by far the best Warren Miller film yet and I recommend it to all skiers.

I always look forward to Warren's next film, but Storm remains my favorite. It is the one that I always recommend to my friends. It's just the right mix of music, narration and absolutely breath-taking locations.

I'm a non-skier, and I found the photography beautiful. The skier in the family loved seeing the different mountains around the world and loved the element of danger.
