The cover and blurb on this book sound great, but the story is fractured and never quite comes to drawing you into the story. I was disappointed but this is a new author and a new outlet for Margaret Weis. Maybe they will get better with time. However, I will certainly wait for the reviews before I buy again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to snuff, June 12, 2007
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
The cover and blurb on this book sound great, but the story is fractured and never quite comes to drawing you into the story. I was disappointed but this is a new author and a new outlet for Margaret Weis. Maybe they will get better with time. However, I will certainly wait for the reviews before I buy again.

Derek is a Templar Knight, when they were destroyed by the pope on Friday the 13,1307, he withstood his torture and finally murder. When he gets to heaven he blames God for letting him be overcome by the forces of evil. He refuses to go into heaven and continues to fight in the war against satan.

Rachel Duncan is a Wall St executive and the center of a plan by the dark to cast the world into a time of crisis. She is wined and dined by Zanus. Derek is sent to stop her and help her over come the evil tempting her.

The writing about the stock market was very real and so the threat seemed like something we face every day. I just didn't get the whole scheme as anything other than business as usual. The interaction between the angel and Derek was supposed to be humerous but how do you be funny and fight armagheddon at the same time. It doesn't work. The book doesn't work, the romance is totally absurd and so is the ending.

Do not waste your time or money.

1.0 out of 5 stars I expected an ocean and got a puddle, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
The plot was sorely lacking. I didn't have much empathy for any of the characters and I picked out the antagonists as they were introduced. The characters themselves were too cliched. A blonde haired, blue eyed angel of light and the darkly handsome devil. Give me a break.
The little bit of romance sparked at a point, but ended up fizzling to nothing within a page.
I had to force myself to finish the last few chapters and I couldn't even make myself read it all. The ending really rubbed me the wrong way and I gave away the book in disgust. It was a waste of the paper it was printed on.
The only good thing about it was the preview of another book in the back.

This book was just ok!
It had lots of potential but it just never got there..
I was glad that it did not have a three page sex scene every five pages ...which is something new for the Romance/Paranormal books these days. That was a nice change.

Not sure what I expected but considering Margaret Weis is a well known sci/fi writer I would have expected something a little more fast paced and not so slow to develope.

Like I said it was ok...easy to follow. You know who the bad guy is from the first time you meet him. The good guy is good looking and nice almost to nice. And the take a cat for daily walks. I guess that is where the sci/fi part come into play in this book. Cats don't go unless they want to go.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible...., September 17, 2007

Warrior Angel is in the top 10 of the worst books I've ever read. It was a lot like watching a Uwe Boll movie. I'll never get my time, money or sanity back. The characters were pathetic - Rachel most of all. I'm absolutely amazed that this book was published. The writing was childish and retarded, frankly. If all it takes is kooky grin and a PC to get published then I'm going to take it upon myself to pen Hannibal Lector's next adventure entitled "The Flavor of Love and Liver". Surely a hit if this is the caliber of what I'd be up against. Now excuse me while I scour out my brain with bleach.....

1.0 out of 5 stars How did this get published???, March 19, 2007
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
The concept was intersesting and I couldn't wait to start reading and was I dissapointed. The hero and heroine were so unlikable I couldn't have cared less what happened to them as the book wore on. The heroine was supposed to be a no nonsense super career woman and she acually turned out to be childish, and horrible cliche. The hero....yawn....enough said on that one. The writing read like some preteen attempt at writing a romance novel...if you see this book please run dont walk to the nearest exit.

5.0 out of 5 stars enthralling paranormal romance, March 3, 2007
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
Once he was a Knights Templar tortured by the Inquisition who wanted to break him and have him tell lies about his order. He never broke so when he died he went to Purgatory waiting for Heaven's judgment. When he arrived at Heaven's Gate he was angry at God who he believes forsake him and his pride returned to let him open his heart to enter Paradise. Instead, he became a warrior angel in Purgatory battling Satan's minions.

Now the demons are moving to Earth with a rumored new tactic so Derek de Molay is sent to watch over commodities trader Rachel Duncan who lost her guardian angel. Derek is the doorman at her building where he meets the man she involved with Andreas Zanus who is actually a demon in human form. He convinces her to do some shady deals for him. Derek knows that Zanus is high up in the legions of hell and also is torn between following Heaven's orders and his need to protect Rachel the woman he loves. Rachel must decide what to do about Zanus blackmailing her into doing what he wants, knowing it is illegal and will cause harm to millions. Derek must find a way to save Rachel and stop Zanus, two goals that seem impossible with the heavenly limitations placed on him.

Margaret Weis has long been known to fantasy fans for her epic novels. Now she takes her writing in a new direction, collaborating with her daughter Lizz to provide an enthralling paranormal romance that concentrates on the battle between the angels and demons over human souls. Readers will like this entry because the angels and the demons have some human qualities that make them easier to understand. The romance between Derek and Rachel is glorious as a man who doesn't trust God and a woman seduced by a demon's glamour feel for each other something that can only be heaven sent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Such High Hopes, Such Low Results, August 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
Like mentioned before, the synopsis makes the book sound great. It's execution is, however, bland and boring. With the hero being a former Templar knight, I expected some fast paced action but got none. Instead, we have a knight who is (wait for it) a doorman. The hero opens the door then closes it and let's not forget the high drama of the hero walking the cat.

If you like dull and predictable, with all plot twists easily determinable within the first two chapters, then this book is for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst book I have ever read. Disappointing!, April 30, 2009
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
The book sounded really interesting. It started off great but then nothing came together. She is sleeping with another man while he hero is around which made me lose respect for the herione. Doing illegal things. Hated this book! I do not have a top ten list of worst books. But if I did this would be number one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept but there's nothing driving it, February 1, 2009
By
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
I had high hopes that this would be a fun read, but alas, it was not meant to be. Derek was described with sandy blond hair and blue eyes, but the book cover featured a black-haired hero. Hmm...I thought the cover depicted the character better. I couldn't picture a younger Daniel Craig as the warrior angel...The plot was lame. The dark angels could have chosen a grander scheme...I know that Lizz Weis is a financial expert, but come on, I didn't feel the sense of urgency to fight the baddies on this one. I'm glad I don't own this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chivalry, June 15, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Warrior Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
If someone in Heaven allowed a demon fiend to kill your guardian angel, wouldn't you like to have a former Knight Templar assigned to check into the situation? For Rachel Duncan, a self-made broker at The Merc in Chicago, she doesn't just get a holy warrior angel working her case, she gets a hot & hunky holy warrior angel. The problem is she already has a boyfriend and, well, that holy warrier angel has some rather limiting rules to work within during this mission.

The mother-daughter team of Margaret and Lizz Weis has put together a satisfying romance that offers more than a typical sappy "boy-chases-girl" story would. Even with the pleasing reminder that humans get to make their own choices in the individual battles of the spiritual warfare around us, none of the scenes in the book get didactic or overbearing. Heck, the angels seem to have as much trouble obeying the rules as the humans...sometimes quite humorously. Sometimes with dire consequences.

Any reader looking for a paranormal romance to whisk him or her out of reality and into the supernatural for an afternoon will enjoy Warrior Angel. I recommend it.

From Sandy Lender, "Some days, I just want the dragon to win."
