Book Description

June 29, 2007
This book is about worship. It s about how absolutely important worship is and how, perhaps, it is the highest calling and occupation of the believer. But it s not about excellence of musicianship in played and sung worship. It s not about personalities or individuals, or specially gifted folks, or style, or technique. It s not a how to book, or a work book, or a here s a service schedule that s bound to work type book. It s about how God calls us all to be His worshippers and how, perhaps, every single one of us can, through a deeper understanding of worship, make an impact and a difference in the society in which we live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Robin is Truly a Warrior Poet!, September 16, 2007
This review is from: Warrior Poets of the 21st Century (Paperback)
I was privileged to purchase one of Robin's first books, Warrior Poets in the 21st Century, at a concert in Mesa Arizona in July 2007. I have been a worship leader most of my life. I love the new wave of worship music but Robins gentle, Celtic style ballads particularly touch my heart. There are so many books written and opinions about "how to" worship. I feel that Robin has a rich insight into the heart of worship and he writes about it with Irish humor and humility. This attribute is so refreshing in this world of promoting self and one's own ministry. In chapter 6 (The Pursuit of God) he says, "Never let the pursuit of excellence be the pursuit of your heart." And "The action itself is not the worship; it is an act that, hopefully, expresses the heart of our worship."

I was drawn to the deep theological truths in the great song Days of Elijah but I was totally taken with the drama and grandeur of The Wonder of the Cross. I believe he has the heart of God in his music and this book is a must for everyone involved in music ministry. I recently purchased 3 more here on Amazon and I'm sure it won't be the last!

Robin explains what is most important in worship is our heart is right before God; to illustrate this he uses the example of Cain in Genesis. He also takes 2 chapters to explain the story behind The Days of Elijah, and he explains how a few of his other songs were composed: Come Heal This Land and My Heart Will Sing to You. He also explains the history behind the Protestant Work Ethic and the history of Northern Ireland, along with his childhood in Belfast and the current situation there.

The Worship Committee at my church, Bethel Baptist in Everett, WA, are using the book for our Sunday School class. We haven't gotten very far in it yet, but what we have gotten read is really good. I'm looking forward to reading the entire book.
