5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Isn't it amazing how reviewers can look at things differently? Unlike the reviewer who found this romance poorly executed, I found it well done and one of the better category romances I've read in some time. I'm not a big fan of romances however I was compelled to pick up this
book because of the cover.

I bought this book because I am a huge fan of Bruce `Batman' Wayne. And
I found many similarities between him and the protagonist Xander
Caulfield. Both of them handsome, well built, sophisticated, highly
intelligent. But most of all...

Isn't it amazing how reviewers can look at things differently? Unlike the reviewer who found this romance poorly executed, I found it well done and one of the better category romances I've read in some time. Unlike the reviewer who found it unlikely that a man like Xander would find Mel attractive, I found it totally plausible. It is not odd that people are sexually attracted to each other in a primal way before they find common ground in their personalities and beliefs. Mel is attracted to what she discovers about Xander. He isn't what her first impression tells her. His bravery shocks her and she's taken out of her prejudices.

I've always loved this author's way with words. Lyrical. Different. Some category romances end up sounding like all the voice has been written out of them. Not so with this story. Well done, Nancy Gideon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read, May 31, 2007
I find it embarrassing to 'gush' over books, so Ms. Gideon has only herself to blame for writing such a bloomin' great book. Warrior for One Night is one of the three best books I've read in the past year. The other two are by Nora Roberts and Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love Ms. Gideon's characters, I love the plot-which is seamless IMHO-I love the setting, the premise, the pacing. Heck there's nothing not to love about this book. I most sincerely hope that Ms. Gideon enjoyed writing Xander and Melody's story as much as I enjoyed reading it. Is there an awqrd for best Silhouette novel? If so, Ms. Gideon deserves to win.

2.0 out of 5 stars Loved it For the Hero, May 30, 2007
I'm not a big fan of romances however I was compelled to pick up this
book because of the cover.

I bought this book because I am a huge fan of Bruce `Batman' Wayne. And
I found many similarities between him and the protagonist Xander
Caulfield. Both of them handsome, well built, sophisticated, highly
intelligent. But most of all ruthless and relentless. I also liked the
fact that he was a self made man.

I did have a problem with the romance. The concept of sophisticated
Xander falling for blue colar Mel was an interesting premise. However
the story suffered from poor execution, especially near the beginning. I
had a really hard time believing that a man like Xander would fall for
such a sexually forward woman like Melanie. It gave the story an air of
f being forced and contrived. It would have been better if the author
had maintained the air of animosity between the two characters and then
had them be attracted to each other as the story went on. I also did
not like the fact that suddenly in the middle of the story Xander
switches from arrogant bastard to smitten suitor. The heroines constant
focus on the heroes looks were annoying. It was a like teenage girl
gushing over a pop star.

I also had a problem with the `sex scenes'. They were written as if the
author was uncomfortable about doing them. Often I found it hard to
discern what I was reading. I found none of it poetic or elegant. If
you're going to sanitize it that much. Then there's really no point in
putting the scenes in. Next time just stick to kissing or heavy petting

Anyway, as I said not a bad story. But it would have been much better if
it had been better executed.

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific romantic suspense, April 7, 2007
Her parents died in a fire leaving Melody Parrish feelng alone. She became a daredevil pilot whose performance obtained her a job with Personal Protection Professionals. Her first client for her new firm is to fly Xander Caufield and his valuable stamps from Las Vegas to Reno. Though he is a cold SOB she acts the professional.

In fact Xander is an arson investigator who believes the Parrish family has fooled his client Western Mutual Insurance into large payouts. He also has a personal vendetta with Mel and her kin involving fires. However, as she figures out that her customer is not what he claims to be, the fire investigator and the aviator begin to fall in love. Suddenly Xander wonders who he must hurt amidst his family, her family, his beloved or the likely loser himself as someone will take the fall in his quest for justice.

WARRIOR FOR ONE NIGHT is an action-packed romantic thriller that soars from the first moment an abrupt aloof Xander meets not a male Mel and never stops for a landing until the final future is put out. The lead couple makes this tale work as the audience will appreciate their changing relationship once both recognize love has confused the equation. No confusion about talented Nancy Gideon as she once more provides a terrific romantic suspense.
