Book Description

10 and up5 and upWarriors

Fireheard could hear a roaring around him, like wind in tall trees. The acrid stench of the Thunderpath stung his nostrils, together with a new smell, sharper and more terrifying. Fire!

Book Two of WARRIORS continues Fireheart's quest to be a true warrior, when he finds new danger lurking in the woods as the chill of winter sets in.

WindClan is missing, and hostilities between the remaining three clans place all the cats in peril. Illness and tragic accidents weaken the camp, and ThunderClan needs all its warriors to defent itself … but Fireheart suspects that certain cats may not be as loyal as they appear.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5 Up-After having left his life as a kittypet, apprentice Firepaw of the ThunderClan has been given his warrior name of Fireheart and his first mission-to find the WindClan and assist them back to their traditional hunting grounds. While he and his friend Graystripe are successful in their quest, Fireheart knows that trouble is brewing, and he isn't sure that the ThunderClan's deputy can be trusted. As events escalate, a warrior from RiverClan is accidentally killed, an apprentice is injured, and Fireheart brings into the Clan a kittypet kitten-his nephew-without thinking of the consequences. Finally, he must decide who to trust and who to fight. Readers not familiar with the first book may find this one hard to follow. Hunter provides a directory that tells which cats are in which clans, but it is cumbersome to flip back and forth. The characterizations of the animals are somewhat flat, although it is possible to tell them apart, and the plot's twists and turns seem mapped out and predictable. Librarians with a readership for Into the Wild (HarperCollins, 2003) will probably want this volume; others can pass.

From Booklist

Gr. 6-9. Firepaw, the former kittypet who became a ThunderClan warrior in Into the Wild [BKL F 15 03], faces danger and treachery within and without his clan as he struggles with his identity. Because some clan members refuse to accept him, he feels like an outsider. Also, it appears that ShadowClan and RiverClan are forming an alliance to usurp land belonging to the displaced WindClan. ThunderClan's leader sends Firepaw and his friend Graystripe to lead WindClan back to its home, but intrigue among the clans and among individuals within them spells trouble for Firepaw. Characters remain true to their feline natures, adding to the plausibility of events in this tension-filled story. Readers will be happy to learn that another episode is in the works. Sally Estes

5.0 out of 5 stars "Warriors" books a hit with homeschoolers, March 15, 2006
A 12-year old female friend of my 11-year old son loaned him the first "Warriors" book, and he loved it so much that he used his Christmas money to buy the next three. He has read like a maniac (which is cool, since he hasn't really cared that much about reading until just recently), and has loaned all his books to his homeschool buddies. They have started calling each other by the book characters' names, and have enjoyed the sharing of the books tremendously. He pestered me until I bought the rest of the series, and he is in book heaven. I highly recommend these books for boys or girls, or even for adults who like to read children's books.

A Kid's Review
I loved Warriors II Fire and Ice. It was an exciting book that was more exciting than the first. I enjoyed the new characters and the secrets between the Clans and Clan members.

Not too long after Fireheart and Graystripe become warriors they get their first apprentices. Cinderpaw is Fireheart's apprentice, young, and energetic. When Cinderpaw gets hurt so badly that she may never be an apprentice, both cats are heart broken. But was her injury an accident or did someone want her to get hurt?

There are separate loyalties in this book unlike Book One. Graystripe has fallen in love with a RiverClan cat. That is breaking the warrior code, which puts him and his clan on the line. Fireheart has caught up with his kitty pet sister and sees her when he can. Princess, his sister, gives him one of her own to be a member of ThunderClan. Will the young clan member obey by the warrior code or will the clan not accept him for who he is?

Cat lovers, good readers, and both girls and boys would like this book. It would be best if you read Warrior I Into the Wild, first because you will understand it and enjoy it even more.
