Warriors fans, prepare to swoon in pleasure! Within the pages of WARRIORS FIELD GUIDE: Secrets of the Clans, you will find the answers to questions you have pondered (including some you haven't even thought of) about the past and present lives of the warrior cats, as well as information about cats outside the Clans.

In the first section of the book, the author gives us the history of the Clans, beginning long ago when cats first crept into the forest and lived in small groups. Many cats died during this time because they fought viciously over prey and territories. But after one bloody battle, they saw not only the spirits of their dead, but also a terrifying view into the future. They knew they could not go on. The fighting had to come to an end, and they must unite. Four main cats --- named Shadow, River, Wind and Thunder --- stepped forward to lead the separate Clans...and the rest is Warriors history.

Set off by The Warrior Code, the leader and others of each Clan discuss that group's character, hunting skills, area, significant events and personalities. Beautiful colored illustrations add visual spark to the words. StarClan has a haunting and wise voice here as well. Two fascinating fold-out maps are included --- one is of the Warriors' view of the area, the other is how the twolegs see it.

Have you wondered about the details of the Warriors' ceremonies, including one in which a cat becomes a Clan leader? They're explained thoroughly in WARRIORS FIELD GUIDE. So are the actual fighting techniques that the Warriors must learn in order to defend their territories and protect their Clans from enemies such as foxes.

Prophecies and omens, and who receives them, are discussed. Some are major prophecies, explained by the cats they are given to. We also are privy to the fascinating and colorful legends and myths of the Clans.

There is much more here to enchant and satisfy Warriors fans: discussions of medicine cats and their roles; descriptions of loner cats, rogues and kittypets. Other animals, such as foxes, rats and twolegs, are also portrayed. Beautifully illustrated by artist Wayne McLoughlin, this is a reference book you will turn to again and again for insight into the lives of these fascinating warriors.

This is such an in-depth and helpful warriors book. A must read for any fan! It shows the territories, has hunting techniques, and more! I couldn't put it down! I hope people enjoy it as much as I did. It is defintitely confusing if you haven't read the other Warrior's books. If you haven't you should. Any cat-lover or even non should read these awesomne books that are impossible to put down!

This book was so great. Fortunately for me, I got it early because my local non-chain bookstore has certain books out earlier than the release date, sometimes by months. Anyway, this book had almost everything that you could possibly want inside. It has fighting techniques, past leaders and medicine cats, healing plants, and many different eye-witness stories ranging from Barley Speaks: Flight From BloodClan to Brightheart Speaks: The Death of Swiftpaw. Any Warriors reader will love this book. It has some nice illustrations too. But I never pictured the Lake ThunderClan camp like THAT. Ugh...
I really wished that it would have some family trees so that fans could predict who could be potiental mates without accidentally having them be relatives. It also didn't have any big color pictures of the camps, which I thought whould HAVE to be a must.
So, to make things short, get this book if you love warriors, since it will be worth it.

This is a very good book in the sense that many unexplained plot twists and signifigant events are mentioned in detail. It's also nice to have some of the secondary characters talking, however, some don't seem to be in the same "tense". The Clan's culture and rules are explained, which is useful for begginners to the series. However, don't read this unless you have finished book four of the New Prophecy (book ten in total). There are some spoilers for people who have not, which takes some of the begginner's interest out. My biggest complaint is a lack of a living/dead list. It can get very confusing, and that kind of thing could have easily fit into the "Starclan" section.
Still, this book is good for any Warriors fan, and anyone who might need a review of the basics as well.

Even though I am an adult, I enjoy the Warriors series. I checked a copy of Field Guide from the library and quickly read it within a few hours. The book explains the different Clans and their customs, their camps in both the old and new homes, the discovery of Moonstone and Moonpool, as well as their previous Leaders and Medicine cats. There's mini stories, with recognizable characters such as Bluestar, Squirrelpaw/flight or Brightpaw/heart explaining their stories or even intruducing you into their clan camps. There's even stories about past cats. There's also a small chapter for the Tribe of Rushing Water, though small. The mythology of the Clans I really didn't care for much, though interesting. The Omens, Non-clan animals, and medicines (though never to be used on your own cat!) were enjoyable to read. I especially enjoyed the origin of the clans.

I did find a bit of disappointment that the field guide is a bit too short. There was some things left out that I was hoping to learn about, such as what caused Brook and Stormfur to leave the Tribe of Rushing water (Hopefully this would be explained more in the Power of Three series). Also a few typos have been noted, including Tigerstar being killed by a Blood, who is really Scourge, and Spottedshadow for Spottedleaf.

As for the pictures, the only colored ones were ones that were used in the covers of the first Warriors series. I was hoping for more color pictures that weren't of ones I've already seen. There were some black and white drawings in each chapter and also a small few of current and past Leaders (such as Tallstar) and medicine cats.

I was hoping for pictures of each cat, myself, and in color. Maps of the old clan home and the new clan home in both Warrior and Twoleg view was interesting to look at. Though, I felt that maps of the actual camps themselves, in both the old and new Clan homes, should've been included.

In conclusion, if you're a huge Warriors fan like I am, get this book. It's a nice one to look back at for histories and even maps of each clan. Maybe this will be updated when Power of Three, The Lost Warrior, and Firestar's Quest is finished.

Warriors Field Guide: Secrets of the Clans
You may want to read the other Warrior books, and Warriors: The New Prophecy by Erin Hunter, before you read the Warriors Field Guide: Secrets of the Clans. Are you looking for a good long story? Then this might not be the book to buy then. If you read the other books by Erin Hunter and want more info on ceremonies, clan history, clan legends, eye-witness points of view in different events, ( like what happened when Wind Clan was chased out by Shadow Clan from their territory) you might like this book. I liked it, the stories from different points of view, the legends, etc. were pretty interesting, they just seemed a little short to me, but you might like it.

i love this book! i read it to my cats (all of them but milo) and rocky purred so loud every time i told him the story about lion clan and told him he was my little lion. now he actually goes outside! thank you erin hunter for giving him that extra shove to being a warrior.

This book is amazng, with stories from cats all over the forest, including the healer from Tribe of Rushing Water, Bluestar, and Crowfeather. also has amazing lists of fighting moves and herbs! you will love it too!

This is a great item. My daughter absolutely loves it. I haven't read it but she likes these books and Erin Hunter's style of writing you'd think these books are necessary for her survival. I cannot say enough about this series. Warrior books are like gold and I know that all my daughter's friends love them too. If you want to get a girl in your life a gift and she is between the ages of 9 to 12 than this is your best pick and a great choice.

Secrets of the Clans is a guide to all things Clan, complete with tours of territories (forest AND lake), major prophecies, ceremony information, and an inside look at major events from the cats' points of view. What I liked a lot about this was that it looked a equal share of the history of all the Clans, not just ThunderClan. This book tells you everything from how the Clans were created to Firestar's nine lives ceremony to a list of medicine cat herbs.
Something cool about this book is that you get a lot of cats' points of view. For instance, Crowfeather tells about his love for Leafpool, Leopardstar speaks of her part in TigerClan, and Daisy recalls her "only hope" for her kits. That's just to name a few, too!
My favorite part was probably "How the Moonstone was Discovered," where we hear about Mothflight, a WindClan warrior that became the first medicine cat. I had no idea the first medicine cat was from WindClan; I had always assumed they would be from ThunderClan since the books focus only on them.
All in all, Secrets of the Clans is great and a must read. If you've ever wondered how the Clans came to the forest or maybe just can't remember what the medicine cats use for fever, this is for you.
