5.0 out of 5 stars MADELINE BAKER HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
I'm only 3 quarters through the book and I already love it. It mixes fantasy with reality and the past with the furture. Jarrett is a Lord who was striped of his titles. Leyla a maje, a healer by birthright. When both of them are captured and but in the same dungeon a love blooms. Leyla is bethroed from birth and will lose her powers if she becomes Jarrett's bride, but...

1.0 out of 5 stars Too much fantasy is not a good thing!
I use to say I never read a Madeline Baker book that I didn't like .. until I read this one. How many times can a man be enslaved (by the same person) and escape!? And then again by a "flesh peddler"!! Three moons, unicorns, giants and a dragon? Gimme a break, not very believable at all. And the way the heroine speaks is very grating on the nerves "thy mother...

And then again by a "flesh peddler"!! Three moons, unicorns, giants and a dragon? Gimme a break, not very believable at all. And the way the heroine speaks is very grating on the nerves "thy mother forgives thee, I thank thee, hold me then, for the night is coming and I fear the darkness". I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes while I suffered through this book - one of the worst romance novels I've ever read. I agree with the other reviewer who said Beneath a Midnight Moon is much better.

3.0 out of 5 stars an ok read, August 29, 2005

I like the book but I can't help but think that the heroine was too soft and didn't consider the feelings of the hero enough. I also agree with the last reviewer, there was lots of violence but not enough true romance.

Once you pick it up you'll never but it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enthralling tale of love and magic!, July 1, 1999
This review is from: Warrior's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
The story really delivers its promise: this is exactly what comes to mind whenever the synopsis of a story claims that the heroine has magical healing powers!

The only drawback is that Jarrett, the hero seems to be EASILY captured or injured if he's got to fight more than ONE enemy at a time, regardless of his opponents' skill. It's really rather disappointing because he appears to be a very strong (almost invincible) warrior as proved time and again when he battles opponents in the 'games' and also due to his inner strength in surviving his ordeal.

Don't miss Ms. Baker's Beneath a Midnight Moon--the only other book she has written that deals with fantasy and magic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth a second read, January 25, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Warrior's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book many years ago when I snuck it out of my mom's book collection. I didn't remember much about it, but I thought about it over the years. I couldn't remember the name and I spent a lot of time and effort trying to track down the title, so that I could purchase it. I finally located the info and found a copy. I couldn't wait to reread it, but after reading it, I don't know what I saw in it. The story mixes in some reality with some fantasy, even though the entire story takes place apparently on another planet, but the characters are amazingly human-like. The heroine resists too much. The peaceful tribe of people the heroine comes from don't seem to have any real emotions except to be even-tempered and peaceful at all costs. Perhaps after years of reading romance novels, I have become jaded, but this book lost all of its original appeal for me, but at least now my curiosity has been satisfied.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much violence, April 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Warrior's Lady (Paperback)
I am going to be very unpopular here but I'm okay with it. I could not believe the violence in this story. Also, I never heard of a Maje and it is too incredible to even attempt to believe. People who heal the wounded and take their pain? Leyla made me angry at best during the entire story. How, after seeing how her man was treated by the different people, did she insist their lives be spared! Please! Jarrett has got to be the bigger fool to allow her to sway him. This was too much for me. I like stories that are believable. This was ridiculous. Even the ending didn't make it all worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL, November 22, 1999

This is so cool I just love the way this book was written. A love between Jarrent and Leyla is so strong nothing can part them, not even death itself.
