Gripping and poignant,
By
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
Thirty-seven real-life warriors tell what it's like to kill, to sacrifice, to train, to fear, and do what needs to be done. Christensen has collaborated with some of the greatest martial artists of all time to create this masterful book. Contributors include Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, Massad Ayoob, Gavin de Becker, Stephen Hayes, Hoch Hochheim, and many more... It is a fantastic read giving great insight into what we fight for and why. The story about how Rick Rescola died saving 2,700 people on 9/11 is particularly moving and highly memorable. I highly recommend this book.

Warriors is an excellent book that delivers a diverse group of viewpoints on what it means to be a warrior.
The most interesting aspect of this book to me was the different perspectives provided by the contributors based on their life experiences. On one hand, you have police officers, soldiers and martial artists; and on the other hand, you have those who were victims at some point in their life and who currently work with victims. Although they all seem to agree that we live in a world with dangerous people and each person is ultimately responsible for their own safety, they do not all agree on how to deal with those dangerous people. The one common element seems to be that this group of warriors all have their head out of the sand and are clearly focused on the world around them. Some of the articles are absolutely fantastic, and some are marginally OK. That should be expected when you pull together such a diverse group. When something bad happens (i.e. gunfire or catastrophe) there are those who run toward it and those who run away. The people featured in this book are the ones who run toward danger. If you are trying to understand why, this is a great place to start.

Loren Christensen's Work is a Victory For Us All,
By Rocky Warren "Warren Consulting" (Colfax, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
You'll find my name and three stories within "Warriors-On Living With Courage, Discipline and Honor." (Pg 38-The Heroic Set of Shoulders, Pg. 168-Muses of A Warrior Trainer, and pg. 267-The Conditions of Combat.) I'm continually amazed at the breadth of martial, military and combat experience among the authors. This is the most gritty, in-your-face account of warriors, their stories and their issues I've ever seen. From Tom Martin's gripping account of a disabled elderly man attracted to his Marine ring, to Melissa Soalt (aka:Dr. Ruthless) story "Fierce Love." If you want to know how and why warriors do what they do, and how they feel about it afterwards, you need look no further. I'm having to buy ever more copies of "Warriors." My family and friends all want one, and I'm only too happy to oblige. Thank you for all your hard work Loren. Through it, we all won.

Don't hesitate, buy this book now.,

When Loren first asked me to contribute to this book, I felt honoured. When I read the final work, I was humbled and proud to share the same pages as the magnificent warriors in it. The stories and experiences written down in this book will give you an insight into not only what it is like to be a warrior but also what terrible price is often paid when walking this path. Hollywood and the TV screen tend to perpetuate myths that have no resemblance at all to what warriorhood encompasses in the real world. This book gives a rare and accurate view of the many different sides to the warrior's life.
You will be both inspired and profoundly touched as you read this book. Don't hesitate to buy this one.

Warriors,
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
In a word, Warriors is fantastic. I've been a fan of Loren Christensen's books for a long time and he's done another great job by writing and compiling essays in this incredible volume that teaches us what it means to be a warrior and to live the life. Whether you're a soldier, marine, police officer, martial artist or a person who knows someone who lives one of these roles, this book speaks to you.
I highly recommend Warriors and I also recommend On Combat, the book Loren co-wrote with Dave Grossman. I bought both books autographed from Loren's site at LWCBooks dot com.

Food for Thought for the Warrior,
By
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
This book is a compilation of short essays from different people in the martial arts and warrior professions. It is full of information and wisdom that one can use for their walk on the warrior path. I am a big Loren Christensen fan to start with, and while this is not his best book, it is certainly worth you time. He has pulled together an eclectic group of people to write these short essays, many of whom I am familiar with and have great respect for. If you are interested in living the lifestyle of the warrior or are just interested in living with courage, discipline and honor, you will enjoy this book. As with all of Loren's books that I have read,it is definitely worth reading. 5 Stars!

Those Who Protect the Rest of Us,
By
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
In the aftermath of 9/11 and as part of the ongoing struggle in Iraq, we need to look once again at our ideas of soldiering, at our ideas about war fighting, and at the actions of many heroic people at the world trade center or the field in Pennsylvania. There are people, indeed most of us, who are basically sheep. We go to school, to work, shopping or whereever giving little thought to the potential of bad guys lurking out there. But out there they are. And we have the police, the firefighters, the Army and more to serve as a barrier between us.
This book is a collection of essays that help to define what a warrior is, and the stories that they tell are of situations where they have 'seen the elephant.' There are stories of military combat, of police work, of doing the best you can under bad situations. I was reminded of the story of the open house at paratrooper school. One young man was talking to an older gentleman. 'I've made 25 jumps. I hear you were a paratrooper, how many jumps did you make?' 'Four', answers the old timer, 'Sicily, Salerno, Normandy, Netherlands.' That's the essense of this book.

I bought this from Loren Christensen's website and he signed it. It a fantastic book written by warriors from the military, the police, martial arts and other places. Most are incredible articles that tell you what it's like to be a warrior in their respective fields. I like Loren's articles but then I've bought most of his books. I highly recommend this book and On Combat too.

An Age Old Code, Which Many Have Forgotten,
By
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
Loren Christensen has written many great books, most of which I must admit I own, but this one I feel is one of his best yet. In this he captures something which only those who have, or are, working in, or pursuing certain professions fully understand. Courage, discipline, and honor can be explained to most, but "felt" by few. Perhaps writings such as this should be considered for our schools in order to better assure our future leaders of at least some insight to, if not active participation in, or understanding of, the concept?

Society,
By CT Warrior (Meriden, CT, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Warriors: On Living with Courage, Discipline, And Honor (Paperback)
This book provides a wonderful guide on how one can live thier lives by a code of honor. This book should be required reading in high schools across the US. If only everyone thought and conducted themselves in the "warrior way", this country, this world would be so much better. It is this book and books such as ON COMBAT and ON KILLING by LT Col David Grossman, that provide a realistic point of view on how our society exsists. We need more "sheepdogs" and less sheep and wolves.
