8yo Devoured It,
By Dynila (Austin Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Warriors: Ravenpaw's Path, No. 1 - Shattered Peace (Paperback)
My daughter (currently 8) is slowly starting the main Warriors novel series, in part thanks to the manga. These are a great lead-in to get reluctant readers hooked on the world and the characters and ease them into reading the novels.
My daughter has read all the Warriors graphics, but this one in particular seemed to really catch her interest. She sat and read it straight through in a single day, something she rarely does. For that alone I would recommend it!

My kids just love the animal stories. In this book, Ravenpaw has settled into life on the farm, and he is happy to be far away from the forest and evil Tigerstar's presence. Ravenpaw knows that leaving the clan life was right for him, but he also realizes that it might not be the right choice for all the clan cats. He loves his peaceful days and quiet nights with his best friend, Barley-cat. But the action starts wen five other cats came to the barn seeking shelter. Ravenpaw is worried that the cats will stay and take away his new home. What will then happen to Barley and him.
If you like animal adventure and action then you will love this book, too.

I purchased this book for my son. He has been reading this series for some time and has really enjoyed it. He says that this book was as good as the others.

Too depressing.,
This review is from: Warriors: Ravenpaw's Path, No. 1 - Shattered Peace (Paperback)
This book had wonderful artwork, lots of personality and too much death. I know, I know, this IS Warriors after all, but killing helpless chicks? It was sickening. Chicken death aside, this book had an interesting plot.
You might want to read this book if you love Warriors. If you don't especially like seeing animals being killed, I would advise you to skip this one.

Amusing,

What can I say? It's a two-sided story: this is a Warriors book, which are a rich star-studded series, so I hold that fact in high regard. And the second part is a bit more condescending: it's, well, a manga.
An intriguing idea at the least, to adapt the whirlwind series about feral cats into a drawn world stamped with the Japanese term "Manga", onto it's furry face. Yet the well-drawn pages are wrapped up as wispy when one closes the new book within a day of receiving their most recent cat book. I wonder when this new obsession of commissioning too many Warriors books will die out. The series is being overwhelmed and thick with the weeds of rotten books threatening to strangle the few strong moments of glory the original series flagged in a heartbeat. I admire Erin Hunter and most of her books, yet the over-used name of "Warriors" has grown thinner than the paper it is printed upon, and the manga series only add more unnecessary punch. So I neither criticize nor glorify this book: it is simply another "Warriors" novel to be stuffed up on the shelf as the reader burns another twenty dollars and is hungry to eat up more with the next unneeded chapter to this unglossy new manga series featuring the once-beloved cat, Ravenpaw.

My son is an avid fan of the Warriors series. I was in a hurry to purchase holiday gifts and did not pay attention that this was not a book in the series but a comic book type version of the warriors. I was very disappointed needless to say when it arrived. Oh well, my own fault.
