Book Description

10 and up5 and upWarriors

The return of a long lost Clan . . .

Many moons ago, five warrior Clans shared the forest in peace. But as Twolegs encroached on the cats' territories, the warriors of SkyClan were forced to abandon their home and try to forge a new life far away. Eventually, the Clan disbanded—forgotten by all until Firestar was sent on a quest to reunite its descendants and return SkyClan to its former glory.

Now, with Leafstar in place as leader, SkyClan is thriving. Leafstar is desperate to believe that her Clan will survive where the ancient SkyClan cats failed. But threats continue to plague the Clan, and as dissent grows from within, Leafstar must face the one question she dreads: Is SkyClan meant to survive?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-6–Hunter continues the series with this book that unveils the future of the new Skyclan. Leafstar is uncertain of her leadership abilities. Though the Clan chose her to lead the mixed pack of cats that make up Skyclan, she wonders if her decision to include kittypets and Twolegs is weakening it. When Sharpclaw, her deputy, begins to keep information from her and override her authority, she questions whether she can trust him. Then there's the growing affection between Leafstar and Billystorm, a day warrior who lives between two worlds. When the Twolegs ask for the Clan's help to defeat their enemies and free their homeland, Leafstar must rely on Starclan to give her direction and wisdom to make a choice that might endanger them all. The author continues to generate interest in these cats and their battle to survive in the wild. The characters are skillfully developed, with a range of emotions and thoughts that draw readers into their dilemmas. Hunter provides a satisfying conclusion where the traits of maturity, compassion, loyalty, and strength are upheld as desirable. She demonstrates through Leafstar that being a leader does not require coercion or bullying but that humility and relying on others is vital to the welfare of all. The manga at the end is an added bonus, providing a mini-adventure in cartoon form. “Warriors” aficionados will bury their noses in this super volume and won't emerge until they have whetted their appetites for the next installment with the sample chapters at the end of the book.Debra Banna, Sharon Public Library, MA

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but it NEEDS a sequel!, September 18, 2010
It was really good but some things were left unfinished. Like all warriors books there were many adventures but some were left incomplete like the whole junk pile itself was completely forgoten. And what about the rat corpses? Did vultures get them? But I did like the way the clan played those games for training and Leafstar's and Billystorm's romance was sweet. It was a little abrupt, though. Just when they realized they liked eachother Echosong broke them up and they remained that way for most of the book. I loved the ending when Leafstar decided that she could be with Billystorm and resolved her issues with Sharpclaw and Echosong. Red's death was really random and sad though, and the battle itself felt incomplete and Stick was not acting like himself- I'm kinda glad they rushed that bit. All in all the book was spectacular though the ending was a bit rushed and it definitly deserves a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read even though it's not about the clans we know, February 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book deals strictly with the newly reformed SkyClan (read Firestar's Quest first).

It is a tale that could be set in any corporate environment, as an organization comes to life amidst dueling visions and spats between various factions, all of whom want what's best for the organization, but come from very different places on how to achieve that result.

Under the astute leadership of LeafStar, SkyClan is going to be like no other clan we've met thus far in the Warriors series. First of all, kittypets are allowed! Yes - they are called Day Warriors - and herein lies the heart of the problem, becaue LeafStar's deputy doesn't like the idea of Day Warriors, nor do some of the other Warriors.

The deputy challenges LeafStar and that challenges goes right to very last pages of the book, where it is brilliantly resolved.

This is a book that can be enjoyed on so many levels, by all age groups. I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Yet So Nice, September 3, 2010
This was a gianormus letdown. This book was too slow, the plot confusing, and the ending adrupt.

I was really looking forward to this. Leafstar was one of my favorite characters of all time, and this book put a slight dent in that. Leafstar has a personality different that portrayed Firestar's Quest. I have always imagined her as a bit shy, but spunky, and this book portrayed her almost exactly like Firestar. There are already six books about him. I don't need another Firestar.

The ending was rushed. Stick & the others' departure was to abrupt, and the end wasn't ended very well. The ending was sorta like a train. Going, going... emergency brake!

I was rather pleased with this book(It was a nice break from Lionblaze) and I hope there will be a followup that goes a little farther in the future.
