General Kahalani talks about a lot of things we don't in the U.S. Army. Specifically he talks about dealing with the parents of soldiers killed in battle. He also discusses MIAs and the demands on commanders to prevent them. His reconstruction of the Armored Corp after the Yom Kippor war is also very enlightening. General Kahalani also goes through detailed decisions made at the division level during the invasion of Lebanon during Operation Peace for Galilee. Luckily, he does not go into too much detail about the war in the Golan as a Battalion commander as he covers that in detail in his other book "The Heights of Courage." It was also very enlightening to see how political factors effected war time tactical decisions in real time as the civilian leadership monitored the fighting and explained to the military reasons for doing and not doing certain operations. This is a great book for senior army officers. Granted there are areas of the book where I disagree with him and he lets his personal issues enter in to the story, but this book remains highly recommended.
