5.0 out of 5 stars IS this DVD "Thanks of a Grateful Nation"??? IF so, its excellent, but also a VERY big if.
I have what I HOPE is this movie on tape, one which I thought was among the very best documentaries I've ever seen. My rating is based on it, "Thanks of a Grateful Nation," produced by and perhaps seen only on Showtime. Not a film with the cover title, the tags associated with it or reflected in the foregoing reviews. They appear to constitute reviews of an entirely...

1.0 out of 5 stars Haven't seen ANYTHING worse than this.
I've bought one and now regret it alot. The video quality is, by far, the worst I've ever seen on DVD, looks like it was recorded from live TV broadcast by a 30 years old VCR plugged into a 40 years old TV set, and the cassete spent 2 to 3 years on some electric magnet before being digitized to DVD.

Not much documentary footage, but alot of the host...

As a Desert Shield/Desert Storm veteran, I thought I was imagining things when I was ignored, passed off and generally pushed to the side. When I watched, I saw things that had happened to me after returning home. Worse, I suffered (and am still suffering) from the same symptoms as shown in the movie. The acting was great, the subject good. This movie, along with "Article 99" should be required watching for every Congress person and every veteran's health care worker.

My rating is based on it, "Thanks of a Grateful Nation," produced by and perhaps seen only on Showtime. Not a film with the cover title, the tags associated with it or reflected in the foregoing reviews. They appear to constitute reviews of an entirely different movie.

For example, while the actors are accurately listed, the film was NOT about the war as the reviews indicate. Rather, it was about Gulf War Syndrome and the resulting government/ military insensitivity, political heroism of a lone senator as well as, of course, the immense suffering of veterans and their families. I would love a copy of THAT documentary on DVD, but the reviews strongly suggest that this one is unfortunately anything but.

Not much documentary footage, but alot of the host speculations are filmed, making it look like a bad case of some TV show. Don't even think of buying - if you want a Gulf war documentary look at "Desert Triumf" which is not perfect, but light years ahead of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the cover:, October 12, 2009

The Persian Gulf War. Desert Storm. A stunning victory for the U.S. But, what happened to many of the soldiers who served, after they came home, is the disturbing and provocative story told in the critiacally-acclaimed THANKS OF A GRATEFUL NATION.

The lives of thousands of soldiers would never be the same. They came home victorious in war but also plagued by mysterious illnesses that were dismissed by the military doctors as "imaginary" or "stress-related." These illnesses would eventually become known as "Gulf War Syndrome."

This explosive, fact-based story of the events depicting the U.S. government's efforts to deny the exposure to toxic agents by troops in the Persian Gulf War is one that will not and should not, be soon forgotten.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why no region 1?, November 15, 2008
This review is from: Thanks of a Grateful Nation (DVD)
My husband works in the AF in NBC readiness. We saw this movie years ago and he's been wanting it. The one I'm thinking of was a drama, not a documentery, about Gulf War Syndrome. I can't find this anywhere on DVD for region 1. So the christmas shopping continues...

So maybe Hollywood could have done a better job by some standards. But there are many men & women who can verify massive amounts of truth in this! Highly recommended! Don't let the Region 2 detour you, several DVD players can play them. Mine cost $50 & I bought it just for this DVD. When we 1st saw this it was on VCR format from Blockbuster many years ago & simply titled "Thanks Of A Greatful Nation" & I was so glad to find this on DVD since I no longer have anything that plays VCR. Seriously consider this & even if part seems cheesy, hang in there it's worth the watch! Prepare to walk away thinking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice images, but most 'old' and a lot of interviews, August 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'll be short here: it's nice the first time, but probably quickly dissapointing for 3 reasons:

1) the images are all of the typical 'have seen that a million times already' category
2) there is too much interviewing/talking, compared to showing cool images.
3) it's a bit short

There are much better Desertstorm documentaries out there. But unfortunately, they are scarce and most use the images that have been shown over and over....

Curious that the title shown during the film is NOT the title on the cover of the box. Still, a thorough & engrossing review of Coalition air activities during this historic conflict.
