Editorial Reviews

A powerful naval task group has sailed east from home ports in Canada to one of the most lawless maritime regions in the world: the Persian Gulf. Its mission is to lead an international coalition of warships in the fight against maritime terrorism and piracy, using whatever means necessary.

Deployed to this dangerous theatre of operations on active duty for four months, this 6 part documentary presents the brave men and women who make up the crew of Her Majesty's Canadian Ships Iroquois, Calgary, and Protecteur. These are the stories of the extraordinary women and men who protect the seas, and our country.

You can't get this close to war without actually enlisting.

This package includes all 6 parts on two discs including:

Part 1: Treacherous Waters
Commodore Robert Davidson leads an international coalition of warships as it patrols 2.1 square million kilometres of water from his flagship, HMCS Iroquois. He is mandated to bring maritime security to one of the most lawless regions on the planet, the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, the Gulf of Aden, and the northwest quadrant of the Indian Ocean. These waters are rife with terrorism, piracy, and the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and humans.

Part 2: Aboard the HMCS Calgary
Homesickness is simply a reality of the job, but on some days, it really hits home. This Father's Day will be marked the crew of HMCS Calgary boarding a suspicious dhow, dangerously close to the territorial waters of Iran.

Part 3: HMCS Protecteur: Auxiliary Oil Replenisher
Equal parts food, fuel and ammunition, HMCS Protecteur is a warehouse at sea. This ship plays a crucial role in extending the warfaring abilities of the international coalition's warship by being able to supply them with nearly all of their needs while on deployment.

Part 4: HMCS Iroquois
Despite today's high of 50 degrees Celsius, the ship's crew is in full combat gear as it navigates the warship through the narrow Bab El Mandeb strait. This chokepoint has the dubious distinction of being one of the most dangerous waterways on the planet.

Part 5: HMCS Protecteur: Warehouse at Sea
HMCS Protecteur was built to be a warehouse at sea, but the crew must also be fully prepared to conduct boarding parties at a moment's notice. Today, the crew will have mere seconds to determine if a fishing vessel is a threat ... or in deadly distress.

Part 6: HMCS Iroquois: CTF 150 Flagship
War at sea is the most complex form of battle. Armament, radar counter-measures & anti-sub-marine capabilities have been integrated to create the ultimate warship. HMCS Iroquois is designed to meet any threat - from land, sea or air. In this episode we see these top-notch seamen run through everything from approaching suicide bomb boats, to a leaking hull.
