4.0 out of 5 stars Keeping in mind what it is., June 4, 2010
This review is from: Warships of World War II (The Jane's Gem Series) (Paperback)
OK, this is a pocket guide to warships of world war 2. And here is what you don't get with this little release;

A - You don't get a brick like tome.
B - You don't get masses of technical detail (cos it's pocket sized).
C - You don't get in depth analysis.

But on the other hand;

A - You do get a nifty and highly portable primer for the subject of the major types of warship used by the various navies in the second world war.
B - You do get a couple of pages on many types of ship including basic statistics and a small photo.
C - You do get something that is probably most useful for a younger person just starting to get interested in this topic from a historical point of view but for the serious modeller there isn't enough detail. The budding naval wargamer may get something out of this however (which is why I bought it - as an adjunct to larger and heavier books when wanting some basic details of warship types for my tabletop wargames).

So four stars for what it is but don't part with much cash for what is basically just an introductory work.
