The Wartville Wizard-Good story, great lesson,
This review is from: The Wartville Wizard (Paperback)
I recently read this book to a five-year-old little boy who absolutely loved the book. He was intrigued by the pictures (especially the lady with the garbage stuck to her rear-end)and kept finding "clues" to how the story would end. He really enjoyed the plot and the humor. The Warville Wizard spurred on great conversations about litter and pollution. The only downfall is that the book doesn't go into why you shouldn't litter other than for the asthetic value of a clean world. But overall, this was a super book.

Very creative storyline.,

This seems to be a book that has gotten swept under the rug in the past years nowhere have I ever heard about it or seen it and I think I figured out why. The story is great its perfect for teaching young minds about the importance of recycling and keeping Mother earth clean and happy but it needs a little updating and tweaking. Mr. Wartville has many problems with the people of his town to put it frankly their slobs! but in the story the author who probably wrote this in the 80's when we weren't as "P.C" about everything uses terms like "cigarette butts" and "beer cans" and then you see some slop with his garbage stuck to him and its a smashed up beer can. I guess if the children are older and your kids are well aware of those two items you wouldn't mind those references but for me it made me wince a little. Otherwise a story with a good lesson!

I used this book in my classroom to assist students in understanding the concept of our environment and how to save it. The student's loved the story line and the pictures were great. There were lots of follow up activities to use with this book and the student's really remembered what happened and applied it to their lives. I would highly recommend this as a fun family read as well as a classroom resource for elementary school or students with special needs.

I read this book to my first grade class and they loved it! They enjoyed the fun illustrations and I loved the humerous way that it taught them to think before throwing something away. We started a classroom recycling project after reading this book, at the student's suggestion! I highly recommend this book to any person teaching a child the value of keeping our Earth clean.

As an environmental educator for seven counties, I used this book for my third-grade presentations. the book is a great one to illustrate the idiocy of littering, and the personal responsibility we each have in keeping our Earth beautiful. Very clever.
