Hot Southern Rap!,
By Ryan Holman (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: It Was All a Dream (Audio CD)
If Jay-Z reigns over the east, and Dr. Dre over the west, then Lil' Keke is King of the South. This CD is a gem, a commodity in a market overrun with album filler and pointless skits. Lil' Keke simply improves with each offering, building upon the success of his previous albums. "It was all a Dream" peaks with "Make 'em Break it", a classic electro-dance cut featuring none other than Cash Money's Hot Boys. A track like this should have been a nationwide phenomenon, a song featured every twenty minutes on radio, a'la Lil' Troy's "Wanna be a Baller". Get this album. Get his other albums. Get any album featuring Lil' Keke, his flows are absolutely red-hot and on-point. You won't be disappointed.

One of the better rappers from Houston, make that the whole south, in my opinion has got to be Lil Keke. Of the 7 albums of his I own, this is his 2nd best, true a lot of his newer (after 2001) albums went on a downslide but when he was first out his albums were banging, now he puts out 2+ a year. This is his 3rd album (in as many years) (he has about 10 or so solo albums to his name as well as a few collabo albums). With 17 songs, you get 2 almost classics, 1 I skip, 5 are ok, the other 9 are good or great songs. Guests are on all but 3 songs (only doing the hook on a few) and all are fellow southern rappers (which I admit is far from my favorite rap type). Prodcution is great from people I never really heard of (like all his earlier albums). Commission Music Group, Lee Johnson and Sin handle it. Like all his albums production and guest credits aren't there or aren't correct but I did my best to bring you the guest list and producers. A must have album for his fans or fans of southern rap.

it is tight,

This review is from: It Was All a Dream (Audio CD)
This cd is tight. Representing the south side like it should be. I played the South Side Remix at a recent party, where very few people had heard of Lil' Keke, and it set the party off. Now people in C-town know this South side rapper can put it down with the best of em'.
