And absolutely inspirational.
She makes the complicated - simple.
She makes the difficult - doable.
She makes the impossible - reachable.
This is the kind of book you can just keep on your coffee table. Thumb through it when you need a pick-me-up. The chapters are short and elegant. Just read a few pages - and she'll make your day.
The subtitle is "some things I have taught and learned as a life coach," and I'm sure that is absolutely true. However, the wisdom and solid, deep truth in this book goes so far beyond what many people think of as "life coaching." I know there are a lot of life coaches out there, and many, many great ones (and I know some of them!) -- but there also a lot of "pseudo-coachy" people who are -- at worst -- trying to get your money, or -- at best -- so busy concentrating on concrete, worldly things like goal-setting, disciplining yourself, and getting ahead that the transformational aspect of coaching gets lost in the exercises and striving. That is not Brooke, or this book.
At the risk of sounding like I'm exaggerating -- Brooke Castillo is a modern-day wise soul. If Kahlil Gibran was a twenty-first-century American soccer mom, he would write things like this. Brooke has done the work and there is nothing she says that is not authentic, real, poignant, and true on a deep level. I love the work of Byron Katie (whose ideas Brooke has been inspired by and has drawn on) but I often feel like I can't achieve that kind of rarefied enlightenment in this messy world, in my messy life. Brooke brings it down to an approachable level. I can relate to her and her life. I leave her writing feeling like what she has done, I can do, too. I don't have to wait for some moment of divine awakening that may or may not come -- I can do this work, and awaken myself, day by day, while still living in the real world.Read more ›
YOU ROCK BROOKE. 5 Stars over and over again.....
Allowing what is to be without trying to shape or reconfigure it is a true gift. To be able to stand in the middle of your life, in a sea of work, details, lists, goals, bills-the messy continuum of daily living, and have the reassurance and insights that validate everything is happening exactly as it is supposed to, is like having your brain turn into a cup of peppermint tea. Soothing relief. For those of us who are trying to catch up to who we should be, it's a tranquil dose of appreciation for right now. I read a bit every few days and feel empowered and clear.
