Editorial Reviews

As a former Charismatic/Word of Faith pastor, Ted Brooks has an inside view of how Charismatic doctrine can adversely effect a Christians life. While many Evangelical ministries take on the task of discerning Charismatic extremes and challenging their erroneous theology, the Evangelicals seem to lack a true understanding of what really goes on within the mind of a Charismatic minister. This is where Ted Brooks reveals his personal knowledge of how Charismatic leaders are trained to expect certain manifestations without even considering their biblical validity.

I Was a Flakey Preacher is often mistaken for a biography, but the contents beyond chapter one, reveal that it is a very readable book about the many doctrines which are associated with the Charismatic mindset. The book also exposes many of the key Bible verses which are constantly used to substantiate the wild manifestations often seen in Charismatic meetings.

One of the main ideas, which is put forth in this book, is that the truth found within the teachings and earthly ministry of Christ, are one of the most challenging concepts that Ted Brooks had to face up to and deal with in his journey out of error.

The other concept, which shook his Charismatic belief system to the core, was the fact that the Bible contained tremendous amounts of information regarding false teachings, false prophets, and false christs. This reoccurring theme comes through loud and clear throughout his book. He obviously was challenged strongly by his own personal Bible study of the word, false, early on in his quest for truth.

Based on feedback from many readers, this book is portrayed as a very readable work and according to those who have written to the author, contains material that is both revealing and thought provoking. -- Publisher Comments

I have spent the last several years looking at many of the various sources on this subject; most very good, yet nothing like this one. I have wanted to find something that would address the errors of this particular belief system but without the arrogant attitude many others have had. This is one book that will be recommended to those who have not been able to see the errors of the "Toronto Blessing" and the charades of the Pensacola/Brownsville "Revival". Ted Brooks writes with understanding and compassion for those who are caught up in this deception. I urge you to read this book.

This book confirmed many of the concerns that I had about my own church. Ted Brooks is honest and courageous for re-examining his beliefs based on the Word. It is a must-read for Christians of any denomination.
