Kelis Makes Her Mark For More To Come!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Was Here (Audio CD)
The title of the album suits the production quite well for it's statement that Kelis left her strong foothold for fans and new listeners desiring more to come. This Japan Import has a tattoo sticker, a lyrical sheet, obi-strip, and the bonus song "Fire" Featuring Spragga. There is also a hidden track [Clean Version] that plays about 60 seconds later at the end titled, "F*** Them B******. The entire listening experience is a tension breaker to feel revived, renewed, and uplifted!
Stand-out tracks to enjoy include the catchy "Blindfold Me" Featuring NAS, "Bossy" Featuring Too $hort, Bonus Track "Fire" Featuring Spragga, "I Don't Think So", and "Weekend". The songs are easily relatable, the music is R&B with some up-tempo, mid-tempo, and much "attitude" type songs like "Bossy", "Have A Nice Day", "Aww S*!", and the hidden track clean version of F* Them B*!". Favorites would include "Appreciate Me" as it brings about many issues a lot people face with kindness being confused for weakness. "Weekend" is another favorite with mentioning of the joys of finally experiencing the weekend to break free from the daily stress of the job, and top selection "Living Proof" bringing about hope and positive spins for those who have given up on love as she is living proof that love can be. Overall, the musical style has pleasant R&B, the song-writing is very mature and excellent, and the singing is very soft on the ears. Kelis has a sound that is unlike most music artists. Her vocals are more raw, almost raspy at times, and non-irritating. Soulfully she can deliver but more than anything she maintains a more mid ground sound of not yelling nor being breathy. The Japan Import has the words to the songs, extra track, and hidden gem making it much more fun to enjoy for fans of hip-hop and funk.
