In Volume 10 of Williamson's famous "A Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight" series Phillip is now married to Barley, and they visit the battlefields of France together, though Philip is convinced this is an area of his soul she will never know. Then they move to Devon, where Philip determines to become a writer. But his life is once again in upheaval when Barley dies in childbirth.
